DiveController Posted April 13, 2016 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Something I have noticed of late looking back at old youtube clips is that in alot of cases they seemed to be "paired up" in a way that every 2 wagons were facing each other, not always but it's a pattern I noticed. It does look intentional and not by chance of random shunting of wagons into rakes. I wonder if it was easier to discharge the tanks with the discharge pipes co-located? DiveController Posted April 13, 2016 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Dive, The shot you posted of the rake rattling through Kildare from the O'Dea Collection - http://catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000306704 - you can see the top of the vacuum chamber just on the last wagon on the right, so they did have them. The other one from Derry doesn't show them at all .... Very interesting. I looked again at the Derry photo and remembering Mayner's comments that it may be a different chassis altogether for the first batch of wagons which this was http://catalogue.nli.ie/Record/vtls000307375 To me it looks like there is a vacuum hose on the left of the three-link, more similar in appearance to some of the flat wagons than the bubbles, with a pipe travelling obliquely above it down the near side of the chassis, turning obliquely in again at the far end PS Sorry about three posts, something is acting up on the iPad, couldn't merge them Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

jhb171achill Posted April 13, 2016 Share Posted April 13, 2016 Since you've been so keen to mention the bogie fert twice in 24 hours JB, can I point out that it sits on a 42' chassis, (of which there is a grand little brass kit available) is a plate based design which would suit a brass kit (see where I'm going with this ?) and it might be in the best interest of a certain brass specialist ........... It would cut the discharge time in half straight away, the hose that connected was a bit of a handful. Jayz, I'm away 24 hours and this happens! As always, thanks for the shout out. To answer the question, YES,I will be doing the fertiliser wagon, and with a full set of fertiliser loads. It will be based on the existing 42'BF. No deadline yet, but given the interest, It could be kicked up the priority list. Don't dare ask for my number though.... We have just received these images of the etched ladders and walk ways for the bubble that we just had to share with you all. Incredible detail and much more robust for handling.
