Broithe Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 For the more modern layout, these round bales look fairly good.
jhb171achill Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 VERY realistic!! The weathered pick up truck is also a realistic touch - vehicles on layouts can often look unrealistic due to being in glossy "showroom" condition, especially vans and lorries. the windscreen of that truck even has marks of wipers in the "dirt". That series he has of other scenic stuff is also inspirational. Good find, Broithe.
minister_for_hardship Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Very nice. IIRC correctly, round bales were only in use for only the last 25 years or so. Before that, square bales... and before that again haycocks.
Noel Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Yes excellent. Can't help wondering if scattering short static grass material of a suitable colour on the tape rather than the labour intensive process of cutting twin might save time.
Garfield Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Useful for recreating an all-too-familiar scene on a layout... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/picturesoftheday/6242540/Pictures-of-the-day-29-September-2009.html?image=3

I've often wondered about the stability of seasonal loads of hay, haylage, and silage on artic trailers usually stacked over the statutory limit bombing down motorways, not to mention the windage. For my Black and Tan era out west I'll eventually need to simulate haycocks.

Another safety issue with round bales is the potential for them to roll down slopes. This is the aftermath of one that emerged through a hedge into the front of a Transit - killing the chap who played the cello on the early ELO hits.
burnthebox Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 That same guy makes very nice model trees !! Have a look here, BTB
