Background stuff essential I'm sure to keep the trains running, but unseen by the general public most of the time. As a child you dreamt of colourful passenger express trains screaming over a viaduct, or a mile long goods train struggling to get up an incline, some yellow bag of bits chugging and vibrating just doesn't do anything for the imagination nor senses. 2 hours ago, RobertRoche said: Sperry is the company. Thanks Robert. That makes sense. So they do the weed spraying and safety stuff like track quality and alignment monitoring, etc. Are they also a contractor for track laying and stuff like ballast cleaning, etc? Quote
Mayner Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Sperry were famous in the US & Canada for using old Gas Electric "Doodlebug" railcars as inspection vehicles which got just about everywhere. Sperry crews had a reputation of being avid readers and excellent card players working away from home for weeks/months. 1 Quote

I believe but am open to correction, that Irish Rail lease (maybe own) the Sperry wagon, not sure if Sperry have anything to do with the analysis of the data it collects. They don;t have anything to do with infrastructure works etc. There is talk of it in another thread here: Quote
