Cheers Rob, yeah I've seen pics of them outside the works. Is that the only reason for them to have been around that area?

How would they have made their way down and up? Individually or in a rake? Tagged onto the back of something else?

Yes, it would be the only reason. There’s a weekly wagon transfer between Dublin and limerick which would take any wagons due works attention to Limerick wagon works, so mixed with flats etc.

There's a weekly "as required" wagon transfer from Limerick to Inchicore and back (and Limerick-Waterford and back), can be formed of anything and everything

The one on the 16th July had 074 hauling Tara Mines wagon 31015, LP flats 30174 and 30141, and LX flat 30253 back from Inchicore

088 passes Portlaoise, 17/4/14 083 passes Portlaoise, 21/4/16 084 passes Portlaoise, 23/7/15 086 passes Hazelhatch, 15/1/15 088 passes Portlaoise, 24/4/14

Actually, some of the shales were converted to Taras, two as clarified by Fran below

To become shales they'd have to lose the roof and you'd have to add some ribbing along the side (You may not have detailing in the inside) Both 32' long, similar bogies

Two shale wagons were converted to Taras and still in use. The end profiles of the bodies are a little different too, as are the bogies, lack of end ladders, but not a million miles off.
