Had a few days between doing some weathering jobs and my own backlog of projects it was a nice break
-
If only, would love a spin in one.
-
Painting completed and two good layers of gloss varnish applied. Leaving to set for a few days before beginning to apply the transfers followed by some weathering. Also dry fitted the rotor heads which will be glued in place along with the side guns once all other work is completed. Very happy with how the paint turned out.
-
Rotor heads fitted in place along with the internal bay and cockpit. Both body sides glued together with engine exhausts and cockpit canopy fitted following painting.
-
With installation of the larger extended range fuel tank complete next stage was a light grey primer coat followed by some pre shading along the moulded panel gaps. Next stage will be to fit the window "glass" before dry fitting followed by gluing the interior pictured aboveand both sides together.

Brilliant, thank you

Really?! I did not know that. Usually spend ages sanding

Miliput. To be honest I could have taken a bit more time to do ot right. Some of it is fixing my own mistakes.

Revell CH-47D. The kit gives the choice of either an RAF version or as the title suggests, converting it into the variant used by the 160th. Below the cockpit is complete and detailed with some internal weathering done. Fuselage pictured is following the removal of the RAF variant tanks and replaced with the larger ones for the 160th type. Filler was then applied and waiting for it to set for a few days. Not necessary to wait that long I know but using the time to prep and paint other parts.

Thanks @Rob. Once the test layout is sold work will begin.

Selling my test layout as I no longer have the space. Base board is 4 x 8 plywood and come with a pair of legs Two running loops with a siding come yard area using hornby set track. Included is a hornby controller unit which can power two tracks. Any questions feel free to ask. I'm looking for 100 euro. Potentially a good father son project to scenic.

The only thing I can say with any degree of certainty is that the 121 running bonnet first would be dependent on whether it had come south bound over north bound off the main line just south of dundalk station.
-
What ever measurement they were those ones were the ones I was thinking of.
-
What about 20ft CIE containers?

After watching through the above video I posted and closing looking at various pictures of the yard online I have adjusted and revised the track plan. Furthermore I will be taking the dive into DCC for this layout including sound installed A class, class 121 and 141s. As always I look forward to hearing your feedback.

Didn't even know they were a thing
-
Each time I watch it I catch some details I missed on the track plan
-
There you go @Rob
-
The overall dimensions is 6 foot by 2 foot for the display part. With two storage tracks to the rear.
-
Below is a rough initial track plan based on the above plan and with stills taken from videos on YouTube of workings in the yard itself before its closure. The blue line simulates a scenic break between the layout and the storage area. In front of that in black is a road bridge over the line and the following road. The section in red will be isolated and unpowered scenic track which would have lead toward Greenore and some long since removed trackage at this point. Also the end that overhangs off the baseboard will be cut flush and not as shown here. The two orange lines represent the rails for the gantry crane. Yet undecided whether or not this will be motorized in some way or just stationary. This is just a rough track plan which is subject to revising and is by no means the finished plan. As always your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Chris.

I've found a video on YouTube of movements in the yard around when I plan to set it. 121s bonnet first among them
-
After coming across this plan some time ago on this forum and after much thought I thought I'd try my hand at an exhibition layout of the yard. While the image below is an original plan I will be aiming to model the yard in the last year or months before it finally closed. Your thoughts, feedback or information in regards to the yard are as always greatly appreciated. Chris
