Allowing for weathering and fading on the MkIII sample, the MM0183 is probably very close to the real thing. Removing factory weathering with wire wool - Interesting technique that looks pretty effective.

40% sales is very good considering wagons only unveiled about two weeks ago. While hopefully the sales figure will reach 100%, is there a figure where a decision is made if its a go or no-go, or are these wagons definitely going ahead regardless of up front sales? Hopefully so, as I personally can't wait to see the cement bubbles in RTR format, but I realise that any future projects are dependent on the success of this project. On the plus side, I hope to order a second rake in November, so hoping that there are still spare sets available then. One other question if I may, is will these wagons be released sometime in the future with livery variations (e.g. CIE logo), weathered versions or gypsum versions? Thanks for your efforts in bringing the project to this stage, and I wish you all every success in this venture.

077 also got a full or partial repaint at the same time as the additional numbers appeared. In the first few months of this year, 077 was sporting a number of rusty patches on both cabs, which have now disappeared since she re-appeared in traffic.

They ran in the 80's and possibly into the very early 90's. There are a few photos on Flickr showing these containers in various stations. Also, the Railfreight Today DVD for Ireland shows these containers (in particular the top red and white ones) in the consists of liner trains, and that was filmed in 1989, I think.

The small sign on the door warns against obstructing the door with luggage.

I have been asked to try and help identify the origins of the carriage door in the photo. The background to it is that it was discovered in a store room in Dundalk and has since been restored as shown in the attached photo. Can anyone identify or shed any information on where it might have been used originally? Thanks in advance.

Only publications that cover freight wagons are the three editions of Locomotives and Rolling Stock of Coras Iompair Eireann and Northern Ireland Railways by Oliver Doyle and Stephen Hirsch. These volumes are also excellent references for the older CIE coaching stock. For details of coaching stock lost in accidents, you would probably need to consult a combination of the IRRS journals, The Irish Mail and the ITG stock books. Details on freight stock is extremely scarce, and the information contained in the Doyle/Hirsch books are still the benchmark reference for this area. Further freight information can be found in the IRRS journals, but you wont find details like what wagon was in what accident.

When IR was formed in mid 1987, the Tippex livery was initially applied over the original C.I.E. orange/tan until such time as the coaches were due for an overhaul/repaint when they received the brighter IR orange Tippex livery. Mk3 coaches were prioritised to get Tippex livery first, followed by Mk2s, Cravens, Park Royals etc.
