  1. My ‘dream layout’ has shrunk in size as I’ve got older, much as I used to ogle the CJ Freezer mammoth plans of long ago. My long term ideal would be Glenfarne (top pic) or Dromahair (lower pic) c1950, so nothing too complex. But fully signalled and with block instruments linked to fiddle yards at ‘Manorhamilton’ and ‘Belcoo’. Lots of scope for operating the full SLNC timetable with the odd cattle special. I’m not really an operator and prefer building stock but it would be a nice test bed for running what I build. Small station as it is, it would still need a biggish shed in 7mm! Photos are Flickr embeds / click on for credits.
  2. That’s serious marking out David - piece of art in its own right! Been busy with Jenkinson myself of late and reminding myself of how to shape a turnunder. Gorgeous shots of Hazelwood.
  3. Innisfree is of course, in Lough Gill. Firmly in SLNC territory…..even named an engine after it…… I knew you’d come over to the dark side in the end …..;)
  4. Excellent Bob. Take it the layout is called ‘Innisfree’?
  5. Excellent. Nice to see how some proprietary items have been suitably adapted - great work.
  6. Ask Roger and you’ll find out! https://www.alphagraphixkits.co.uk/
  7. This is about as close as you might get ….much work required though ……https://railsofsheffield.com/products/pre-owned-l-yr-2-4-2-tank-50636-br-black-early-emblem-steam-locomotive?variant=41777301946559&currency=GBP&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google+shopping&gclid=CjwKCAjw4P6oBhBsEiwAKYVkq2tM49KNzLKrl9yZGL6gVEtfyb0ELTejB7LL7xxb50TTUhP7vj-LdhoC6rIQAvD_BwE
  8. Excellent stuff. Really looking forward to seeing this. Better do some wheel cleaning so my tanks don’t disgrace themselves !!!
  9. Thanks Ernie - as you’ll see I had edited the post while you were typing after I checked my library ! I’ll stick to commenting on SLNC pics!!
  10. Looks almost Dublin main line with the boats, but apparently it’s the Foyle viaduct rather than the more commonly pictured Mourne one. Lough Gill is always easy to identify in later pics as it was only Large Tank to keep smokebox lubricators into 50s.
  11. Very nice. Being a parallel boiler, too, the Fowler tank is an ideal starting point for an NCC/UTA/NIR WT class……
  12. Ernie / I can’t log in to Flickr to comment right now but your mystery toilet is Victoria Sq, Belfast.
  13. A small commission job. Paint and assemble an 009 tram loco…details added include real coal and glazing. I’m glad I’m normally working in 7mm ….bit small for me !
  14. fabulous. IIRC @David Holman has made one of those crates
  15. Excellent. Will look great with a 70s era CIE freight coming under that bridge. Just needs a battered old car with a red rear numberplate sitting around somewhere !
  16. Excellent. Looks like a 3C possibly ~ which was produced late 60s on.
  17. He also knew Peter Denny - and had operated that famous cleric’s Buckingham layout https://m.facebook.com/BBCArchive/videos/1980-small-world-model-railways/1173056213553316/ prayers for his family at this time
  18. Always thought that W and T loco looked like a Hornby clockwork one! The coach is an MGWR hearse van, which had a ‘coffin turntable’ inside. Adavoyle station most interesting- signal lever frame was located in a front room of the house. Quite what js being signalled here is rather puzzling, unless the signal beyond the bridge has been placed on that side of the line for sighting purposes.
  19. Lovely work Alan. Almost looks like 6 separate etches to be cut off….suggests to me some kind of strapping to be located near each wheel set - possibly on solebars? A careful study of prototype pics may reveal the answer….sadly I’m nowhere near my Coakham books.
  20. These IRRS books are fab. I have several of the SLNC ones. Invaluable for anyone seriously modelling MGW/GS/CIE given the longevity and wide distribution of these coaches
  21. Thanks Ernie. Probably 1115 goods ex Sligo. Note the carriage tacked on at the end. This means that the 7:20 ex Enniskillen would be steam worked that evening. If the 1115 didn’t run, then the 7:20 would be railbus worked.
  22. Wonderful. Looks well and should run well too - will float along on those springs.
  23. Indeed it could. It’s actually better than the photo he took just a few minutes later or earlier which features in this book. The engine is clearly in fine fettle, ready for the hard climb up Kilmakerrill summit. When this pic was taken - May 57 - Enniskillen was the most recently shopped SLNC loco and the most mechanically sound loco in the fleet.
  24. Indeed he does. Thank you ! Fabulous pic
