    New IÉ logo...

I caught a glimpse of 077 outside the shed at Inchicore today, repainted in the new livery. It has the new logo's outlined in white but they haven't been applied yet (unless this is the idea?) from what I could see anyway. Have to say, from what I've seen, it doesn't look great, just looks like a very heavily weathered 071 with a yellow front! Hopefully it looks better when I get a closer look
  2. The Model Shop on Capel Street used to have a good selection, i'm not sure if they still do though.
  3. I did the lighting a few years ago and it was a bit awkward alright. I have one white and one red LED at each end and fibre optics running into a piece of black heatshrink tubing around the LED, to prevent light bleeding out. It's not a great system but it will do until I get around to replacing them
  4. I stuck a cheap Hornby chip into my 55 when I was testing the lights and that on my A-Class, and it ran so well I decided to leave it in. One thing I did notice was that the DCC socket on the Class 55 was faulty so I removed it and hard-wired the chip in place. Heres a short video of the A Class showing its slow-running capabilities.
  5. I watched the episode this evening and I enjoyed it. If you're looking for detail about the railways, that is not this shows intention; he is following Bradshaws book of the same title, which isn't a book on railways, but rather a guide on the locations that can be reached by rail and a description of the journeys involved which is what Portillo is doing. As for 'Great British Railway Journeys' being in Ireland, the book was written in the 1860's as far as I know when Ireland was still very much part of the empire and to be fair these Irish shows are titled 'Great British Railway Journeys visits Ireland', to keep everyone happy

    New IÉ logo...

Yes I saw it this morning, sitting outside Inchicore, the Intercity markings looked much better!

    New IÉ logo...

Travel a bit further to Sallins, we're much friendlier up that way;)
  8. I bought one the same as that shown in the picture above and, although it could have just been my operation of it, I didn't get great results and just reverted to the static grass shaker bottle which gave better results. It can also give you a nasty shock which wakes you up a bit
  9. I've been meaning to sell this for a while and now that i'm completely broke it seemed like as good a time as any http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Irish-Rail-Mk3-Coach-Hornby-short-/121060670930?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item1c2fc73dd2#ht_500wt_1288
  10. I always thought locomotives/railcars had 'dead mans' pedals.......obviously not!
  11. Stunning layout Kirley! The different action scenes around the layout just add to it brilliantly
  12. I know it would be a lot of work but could the grilles be replaced using the sides of plastic CD cases. I have used them before to represent the vents on a Mk1 GSV van and they look quite good. Hope ye find a solution in some form
  13. Very nice layout and that hillside is a tidy job
  14. The layout is coming along nicely and those DD's are stunning! Good luck with the opening trials

    SULZER 101 Build

You really are flying at the construction and its turning into a fantastic model
  16. Excellent work all round!
  17. Still one of the funniest moments ever
  18. Sounds like a great experience Vincent. Any Civil Engineering jobs going up there? (already knowing the answer:( )
  19. Great to see the mk3's out in the open again and they look really well behind 112 and 220:tumbsup:
  20. They look great Anthony, lovely models!
  21. Excellent work all round, the weedspray coach looks great
  22. If you can't get the VW Brilliant Orange in Halfords, some motor factors (such as Vinny Byrne's) can mix up a can of RAL2011 in aerosol form for you. I tried Halfords before and, even though it's listed in their catalogue, they looked at me like I was crazy It may be known as Samba Van Orange or Beetle Orange in some places as far as I know.
  23. The option Weshty suggests is the way to go, I did the same a while back. The main issue is with fixing the roof back down as it clips into slots on the sides, I've just glued mine down but if you want access another method may be required. The gangways need to be replaced with Craven style ones also. Sorry for going off topic
  24. Whenever they arrive, you're not allowed open them until Christmas day :D
  25. I would recommend brake fluid also. I tried it out on an Airfix/Dapol MK2d coach which had 3 coats of automotive spray paint on it (primer, orange and lacquer) and I left it soaking for over a week. After this the paint literally just slid off in one piece with no damage to the plastic. From reading online about it it seems DOT3 has been replaced by DOT4 but I assume they do the same job? As regards paint stripper, stay away from Nitromors, it melts plastic straight away as I found out
