It’s an interesting question. Personally, a diesel like an A Class or an 071, and I’d buy two or three, mainly for display. If it were a smaller, more operable loco like a G Class or a Ruston, I’d buy one, just because it’s Irish. I probably wouldn’t buy another Irish steam loco, as they’re too far from my field of interest.

Sorry to hear this, @David Holman. Living and working en Canarias for many years now, and this sort of thing is neither new nor rare. Without typecasting a whole nationality, here en Canarias, it’s usually carried out by Italians. Usually three working together; a distraction, a lookout and the actual pickpocket. Italian criminals are embedded in the underbelly here like ticks, from organised crime to petty crime, and everywhere in between. A brief search online in Spanish will return a lot of results on the bigger raids on the mafia guys. The emergency travel documents are a pain in the arse. Have had to help people get them before and it’s literally a day’s work to make a denuncia at the police station and then go get the emergency travel documents. The advice from others is great; if your room has a safe, use it. If it costs €30 or whatever, it’s worth it. Just make sure that the safe is secure! Have met people who’ve had their safe stolen as it was only fitted to a wooden shelf etc. Spread your stuff around, if you must bring it with you. The more pockets, the better. I stick non-slip tape to everything, to make it even harder to get it out of the pocket. I used to buy little packs of Velcro strips but they started annoying me, so I moved to non-slip tape instead. Anybody here on the forum into slot car / Scalextric type layouts? I guess there’s not a huge crossover between 1/43 (O Gauge) railways and 1/32 (Gauge 1) slot cars, but it’s always struck me as a veritable option for moving vehicles on a layout… …Unless you have some of Bowaters 1/32 Irish stock sitting around, then it’s perfect! Then there’s the slot car racing side of things itself, the cars, the racing, the layouts, the dioramas. Some builders put incredible effort into the detail of the layout, whereas others focus on the accuracy of the cars, while some just want to go fast. I’d say holding back on Irish liveries is a wise choice for a few reasons. First run of the tweaked tooling so it’ll allow for customer feedback on potential improvements. There’s a lot of Irish stock available at the moment, and due this year, including two locos and a railcar, plus two coach ranges, so a lot of hammers already being applied to piggy banks. I recently read comments here on the forum, possibly from @Patrick Davey and @jhb171achill, saying that they don’t like the size of the Genesis coaches and are retiring them. Apologies to you two if it was somebody else. Maybe next year or the following year, when there’s a vacuum in the Irish coach market.
