I think you've received good advice on your query and it was you after all who brought up the Model Shop Belfast piece in the first place. We'll leave the thread there.

  10. He is aware of the thread. I also think that the 121 will happen once existing stock is sold, so the crowdfunding deal may not be of interest to him. I think his most recent releases demonstrates his belief in NIR. That's a bit of a silly, unfair and unproductive statement to be honest.

  14. I saw that, I really need to get on with my DC Kits model. The shop commission was also shown up recently with Hattons commissioning DJM to do a GWR King whilst Hornby had been working on one too.
  15. Nice! Gotta love a bit of Warbonnet The RTR/Bluebox motors can be a bit hit and miss with many yanks installing Kato or Canon motors in their place (they'd probably die if they ever saw a Lima pancake!) Some tips on better running here

  17. In one sense it may be logical but a big part of model railways is recreating something long lost. I love BR steam/diesel transition from the 60s but I was born in the 80s. The ICRs do nothing for me personally (apart from being pleasant enough to travel on) whereas CIE Sulzer or E floats my boat. Different strokes and all that, but if we werent interested in the past there'd be no steam models for instance, no 141s selling in Black and Tan for instance. The age profile of the hobby is another thing to consider, people who can remember 121s in their heyday are usually those who have the extra income to buy them rather than young people who only know ICRs. But sure that's just my opinion!

  19. 1200 Models divided by 4 for four different liveries/running numbers. So 300 of each. I could see 300 of a 121, A Class or C Class selling in four different liveries...
  20. A modular design like that would stand the best chance of working. But would people buy several thousand of them in a couple of months? It's hard to know.
  21. The problem with wagons is volume. You'd have to make several thousand and charge it at a keen enough price. The balance for the small market like Ireland might not suit such a project and it might well be why it has not been done before. On top of that if you were to buy a rake of say, ten wagons, it's more likely to cost more than a loco. There must be a reason that an Irish specific RTR wagon has yet to be done. That said, I'd love a rake or two of wagons at reasonable cost outlay. My eyes are on SSM's flats at the moment!
  22. Going from the N gauge Pendo model with Rapido example a number of tooling variants would be required, so I think in the case of your examples it would be the two variants. Again all this is hypothetical and nothing will probably come from it. It's just an exercise. If someone wished to take the data to the next stage and wider audiences (clubs, retailers etc.) then they can feel free to do so. I hear what you say about the 071s and 121s and this site is only a small part of the overall market. But if someone feels like they can take it further then more power to them.
  23. I think it would be commercial suicide for another crowd to do so. But if it wasn't a 121 (which I think DART Station is right about, it will happen under the MM banner) how would people feel about another venture having a go at something should demand dictate?
