  1. No. But many can choose not to vote if that is their wish. Democracy at work.
  2. I saw that, I really need to get on with my DC Kits model. The shop commission was also shown up recently with Hattons commissioning DJM to do a GWR King whilst Hornby had been working on one too.
  3. Nice! Gotta love a bit of Warbonnet The RTR/Bluebox motors can be a bit hit and miss with many yanks installing Kato or Canon motors in their place (they'd probably die if they ever saw a Lima pancake!) Some tips on better running here
  4. +1. He's done great work, but you'd swear he's the only man able to make a proper model judging by some of the posts on here.
  5. In one sense it may be logical but a big part of model railways is recreating something long lost. I love BR steam/diesel transition from the 60s but I was born in the 80s. The ICRs do nothing for me personally (apart from being pleasant enough to travel on) whereas CIE Sulzer or E floats my boat. Different strokes and all that, but if we werent interested in the past there'd be no steam models for instance, no 141s selling in Black and Tan for instance. The age profile of the hobby is another thing to consider, people who can remember 121s in their heyday are usually those who have the extra income to buy them rather than young people who only know ICRs. But sure that's just my opinion!
  6. Very nice Ken, welcome aboard!
  7. 1200 Models divided by 4 for four different liveries/running numbers. So 300 of each. I could see 300 of a 121, A Class or C Class selling in four different liveries...
  8. A modular design like that would stand the best chance of working. But would people buy several thousand of them in a couple of months? It's hard to know.
  9. The problem with wagons is volume. You'd have to make several thousand and charge it at a keen enough price. The balance for the small market like Ireland might not suit such a project and it might well be why it has not been done before. On top of that if you were to buy a rake of say, ten wagons, it's more likely to cost more than a loco. There must be a reason that an Irish specific RTR wagon has yet to be done. That said, I'd love a rake or two of wagons at reasonable cost outlay. My eyes are on SSM's flats at the moment!
  10. Going from the N gauge Pendo model with Rapido example a number of tooling variants would be required, so I think in the case of your examples it would be the two variants. Again all this is hypothetical and nothing will probably come from it. It's just an exercise. If someone wished to take the data to the next stage and wider audiences (clubs, retailers etc.) then they can feel free to do so. I hear what you say about the 071s and 121s and this site is only a small part of the overall market. But if someone feels like they can take it further then more power to them.
  11. I think it would be commercial suicide for another crowd to do so. But if it wasn't a 121 (which I think DART Station is right about, it will happen under the MM banner) how would people feel about another venture having a go at something should demand dictate?
  12. Just to play devils advocate here; What if Paddy Murphy said he wasn't interested in such a venture?
  13. Yes but I missed this thread. Sure none of this Irish guff would be of interest to me They had some nice footage of Westerns and Warships on one episode and a tour of Toton depot. That was good enough for me!
  14. You're replying to the man who has that direct line...
  15. I think it was made around 10 years ago as far as I can recall.
  16. Thanks for the update David, looking forward to it I have to say!
  17. Something like Kickstarter means you pay in advance. Once there is enough orders the capital to cut tooling and do the design is in place. If the target is not met then the money is given back to those who bought into the project.
  18. That's also for a max 11 coach train which will require several different coaches tooled up too. Maybe something like one loco would only need a couple of variants catered for. Rapido's stuff is superb though, run by real enthusiasts and critically they own their own factories in China.
  19. For an insight into how Kickstarter works it's worth looking at this website. http://www.ngaugependolino.com/ At the moment it's a speculative exercise to see if there is interest there, then what people would be interested in. After that it's up to individual(s) to take the data to the next left if they so wish to do. I wouldnt worry about the politics or the inner workings of how something like this would eventually work just yet.
  20. Yes, only members who have logged in can vote.
  21. Cheers Dhu Varren. Could be an interesting modelling project....
  22. A couple of posts have mentioned "any Irish loco" etc. We cant really put that in as an entry in a poll. If anyone wants to take the idea forward a notch they can use the data from these polls to add a concrete base to their case and see if there is any desire for such a project to occur. First, find out if people are willing to pay up front. Then find out exactly what most people want and take it from there. When this poll finishes we will open a new poll with the suggestions in this thread to see what the most popular item will be.
  23. If we are going to run a poll after this one lads we need suggestions of actual prototypes rather than "anything". Maybe keep it to one or two suggestions too otherwise the list might get very long! Cheers.
