  1. I had to send one American loco back before and I think they picked up the postage. First Heljan loco ever to go bad on me, and in fairness I do have well over 20 of their engines.
  2. I read on RMWeb that I'm not the only one having problems and Hattons have an excellent reputation in returns. I also have a Clayton that works...
  3. I can access the motor no problem Ivan and will give it a go if possible. Mind you I don't want to do too much incase I void the warranty and it turns out to be a motor burnout after all. I'll see how far I can go Sure was Shem, I think he was eyeing up what member of the family he could sell off to fund one. They're seriously impressive when they work!
  4. Well the beast was unleashed today and I have to say what a smooth runner it was. Powerful too, a really impressive machine all round until it decided to go pop at one end after about 90 minutes running. Looks like a seized or burnt out motor. Back to Hattons she goes. Wouldn't mind, but we were only up to about 70 wagons at the time!
  5. I have a feeling that this topic has hit the buffers already.
  6. It's been flagged for the boffin (BosKonay) to look at. It's been happening to myself too. I'm sure he'll get it sorted very soon.
  7. Only had a quick look but very well. 200 Sterling is a lot of money but I think she's worth every penny. It's got two motors too, so essentially you're getting two locos in some ways. Lots of nice extra detail, no sign of moulded handrails thankfully! Looking forward to chipping her and putting her through her paces down in the midlands.

  9. I'm a happy bunny, came home tonight to find this waiting for me...
  10. Great video on the development of APT-E http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f16_1314673094
  11. An aborted attempt to make a driving control car out of a Mark III international coach I think. It didnt work sadly.
  12. Nice stuff! Like the Colas 37. It's a bit modern for me era wise but I do have a spare Hornby 60.... Just wondering where you got the paint from? Bit problematic getting the likes of phoenix nowadays? Keep the pics coming, the NR stuff is lovely too.
  13. This is my favorite take on it - http://www.joe.ie/football/football-news/maths-says-you-are-more-likely-to-be-bitten-by-luis-suarez-than-a-shark/
  14. And now duly ordered. At least I have over a year to save up but in fairness for the quality of the product it's a good price.

This small class of locomotives were originally ordered and used for Tito's Blue Train in Yugoslavia. From Wikipedia
  16. Were European outline models made in Shannon too? Any idea if their Class 40s and/or their Mark IIIs where made there too?
  17. How much were the sets at the time Dave? Were they cheaper than the Hornby and Lima sets of the day?
  18. I wouldnt be surprised if the prototype HST would be the next model Rapido do with Locomotion considering that the surviving power car has recently been re-engined. Knowing Rapido they would want to do the full prototype train with correct Mark IIIs. I might be wrong but I believe the prototype Mark III rake had a slightly different profile to production Mark IIIs.
  19. Well there's at least one that'll be crossing the Irish Sea and I'm sure I wont be alone either!
  20. Canadian firm Rapido Trains are doing a OO model of the APT-E experimental tilting train. Be still my beating heart! http://rapidotrains.com/apt1.html
  21. Absolutely, there's a couple of magazines dedicated to the subject too, mainly American and a British outline one too but would be worth looking at for ideas and inspiration. Lots of good advice here, would love some O gauge garden action myself. I know Wrenneire has a bit of O Gauge in his back garden too.
  22. I'd say if the Grey 071s were about before the models came out it might have been different. For the 121s I'd say it would be a modular design like the baby GMs, a couple of different sills (one to accommodate the handrail stanchions, one for the early versions without them) a couple of different cab mouldings to cater for lights, blanked out windows etc.)
