  1. Nice one David, best of luck with it.
  2. Think I'll just go sit on a roundabout for a couple of hours, least I'll get a bit of fresh air that way
  3. Another site worth viewing http://50aworks.wordpress.com/ Tom also posts on the Modellers United forum with a nice workbench thread but they're moving servers at the moment so might not be fully accessible for a few days. Scotsman got the banjo dome in 1947, so right at the very end of LNER. Deflectors in 1960 and the double blastpipe in the 50s. She's going back to an A3 boiler during this latest overhaul but she has been on an A4 boiler for a long time and I'm pretty sure Hornby modelled her that way for the NRM edition. LNER forum http://www.lner.info/ Although he models the Eastern Region in BR days Tony Wright from BRM knows a hell of a lot about LNER steam. Worth looking at his thread on RMWeb too (even if just for the gorgeous layout and models) http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/64295-wright-writes/ Then there's Grantham which is 1930s LNER http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/58826-grantham-the-streamliner-years/ and Peterborough North (again BR days, but might be of interest http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/18451-peterborough-north/) A4Mallard and I keep saying we should have a gathering of our A4s on his layout sometime, I have four and he has many, many more! I like the BR days of the former LNER and the LMS (moreso) and mixing them with Standards and diesels. I do have a Q1 too, irresistible bargain from Grahams, lovely model and in my defence could be found on cross city freights on the North London line. Can't explain the Merchant Navy mind you.... Anyway, hope that's of help! Plenty of interesting reading.
  4. Yep Micks was the one I was thinking of. The NRM Scotsman is sought after I believe, might be better off moving it on. I'm pretty sure the real one currently has an A4 boiler (sans streamlining, of course) and I think Hornby have modelled that too (the A4 boiler is smaller) but again I'm not sure when that took place. I have two A3s including your version of Scotsman, gorgeous runners. The railroad ones are good value and nice for the money. Great starting point for detailing.
  5. Nice collection Brian. If you want to switch Scotsman back to 1930's condition she'll need a single chimney and I know the dome was different to the banjo dome later in life (just not sure when). Then again if you're happy then happy days. There are a couple of good threads on rmweb that will help and then there's an LNER forum. I'm away at the moment so I'll post them for you tomorrow.

Interesting, how much can I ask Shem?
  8. I can add a +1 to this. Well worth a look for those who are looking to embark on a new layout build. And it's not just basement empires either, there are some nice layout ideas for smaller sizes. We can learn a lot from modellers of all different backgrounds and apply them in an Irish context.
  9. It was his fault I got there in the 1st place! Then he abandoned it...
  10. Balls, missed out on that one! Looking good, will give you a bell this week.
  11. Interesting! Does anyone know what the link with W&H was? I was in W&H in summer 1994. Don't think they lasted too long after that. Maybe a distributor of kits etc?
  12. Cheers man, must pick up a few wagon kits in the senior scale myself
  13. So it's been many months since I uploaded anything. Today's fun has been fitting the many detail parts, chipping and ultrascale wheel sets to a couple of vitrains locos.
  14. Top notch work. Really enjoying your build!
  15. Just wondering why there was a few missing parts Brian; was the kit second hand or was it a mistake by park side? They're usually quite good. Must pick a few up myself.
  16. Having travelled on virgin voyagers in the UK we struck it lucky with the ICRs. I miss loco hauled as much as the rest of us but from a passenger point of view I can't fault them.
  17. Good to see some senior scale, nice work!
  18. Fair enough Tom, it's just that you said that things were getting worse in your view, I just misunderstood you. It can be tough juggling family life and the hobby as well as a career. Best of luck with it and we look forward to seeing the project. All the best.
  19. Hi Tom, Very sorry to see you go. Always enjoyed your contributions and your sense of humour. The door is always open to come back and if you want to discuss the issues you feel are occurring that you feel are affecting things please feel free to contact any of the mod team and we'd be happy to work to improve things. We're always looking for feedback from members. All I will say is that it's worth remembering that there are two sides to every story. Cheers, Fran
  20. I was expecting to see a man in Laois in 4mm scale. Anyway... These might be be of use if they do a model that isn't already available in 4mm scale and a suitable chassis is available.
  21. I sure do, Bren has his own youtube channel too with great videos of his previous layouts as well as the new one http://www.youtube.com/user/a4mallardie/videos http://www.youtube.com/user/franburke/videos
  22. Cheers man!

    So they were kitbashed?
  24. A damn fine looking tractor all the same. Would go a long way to find a nicer looking tractor (apart from maybe a Muir HIll, but a city slicker like me wouldn't know anything about those yokes!)
  25. Pity so little of it will be Irish outline Cheers for the info lads, will continue the research!
