  1. Strange one on the enterprise today
  2. The spare non push pull 201s are used like this due to long wait times for EMD parts 2609 was also used like this until it was recently taken away from Cork. My understanding is that in inchicore it was also stripped of anything that could be used and then given to the scrap man
  3. https://flic.kr/p/2pwdkLN 90 in inchicore, must have been there since around the time the west cork closed https://flic.kr/p/2qUUb7w 90 on the way to Fermoy on st Patrick’s day 1962! 800 in Thurles June 1961 https://flic.kr/p/2pry8aH In Adelaide in September 1961 https://flic.kr/p/2qUTqag 801 in June 1961 https://flic.kr/p/2psSqf4 301 in September 1961 https://flic.kr/p/2qUML9k
  4. 90 was saved by a lobby of IRRS members at the time. It was small, very old, and wasn’t worth as much in terms of scrap value! The IRRS of course also managed to convince CIE to do a half baked overhaul of 90 which allowed to work for 6 months. if I was to guess this letter dated from mid 1961. As around that time the 1961 all Ireland tour had used a handful of these locos. And by November 1961 - 90 was refurbished at inchicore
  5. An interesting one posted by Ed O’Neill on Facebook. Shows 90 and 800 as “sanctioned for scrap” !
  6. By the time your modelling, most steam locos had been withdrawn and extensive deisalisation had taken place leading to the displacement of the likes of the F6. Virtually all verity in classes had been wiped out in the late 1950s, leaving All that was left of steam in Cork by the turn of the decade was the Bandon Tanks, J15s and J26s (with exceptions of course) Indeed it’s those classes that remained in Cork up to (and some claim beyond!) 1963. although it’s very hard to place a Bandon Tank in Mallow! They went to youghal and Cobh - but I’ve never seen them as a mallow pilot for instance. Although now I’m going to try and find evidence of it happening!
  7. I thought 127s cab was supposed to be still among the land of the living! Very nice 6105s door
  8. The way they don’t the decals is funny looking. It appears they painted around 131, and painted over a previous 131 decal
  9. I would say Mullingar-Dromod would be a good option. A good shot of people get off at Mullingar. Dromods Cork Volunteer takes the train up and back as he does not have a car either I’ve often had to make the odd trip on the tractor, not to much shame in that!
  10. Dromod, maam cross and Downpatrick all have regular volunteers from Cork, I know the lads going to maam are regularly making a 4-5 hour journey each way out of there own pocket! It’s mad - but ince you catch the bug it seems hard to let go. I will admit though - having access to trasnport is key. Without car pooling or access to a car, it’s very difficult.
  11. Well they sandblasted it down to the metal and it still rusted which probobly ain’t a great sign. 2025 saw the scrap of one Metro-Vic in C227. 2026 may well see another!
  12. From what I’ve heard - and this might be all wrong, most things will end up scrapped, 5C is currently for sale (not that you’ll find a listing for it anywhere!).
  13. 90 and a J26 would be some combination at Downpatrick!
  14. Maybe somewhere around broadstone?
  15. I can Probobly dig out infinite images of 552 and 559 in West Cork, so my completely unbiased vote goes to…
  16. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1Dwz3UXSVr/?mibextid=wwXIfr bantry
  17. There is probably more of the mill somehere, you just have to wait for it to be released!
  18. https://flic.kr/p/2pww8YK silver laminate, Park Royal and 6 wheel coach shunted by a filthy C class out in Bantry
  19. Same vain as some of the threads about photographs, I note the west cork model village had made this short snippet of the CBSC dvd public https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1DmpuE5Xpo/?mibextid=wwXIfr

  21. They only seemed to half commit to that logo at the time so it is interesting to see it on things
  22. Signs installed in Bandon last week and officially unveiled today as part of the 65th anniversary of the west cork railway closure. Some very nice photos and info on them
  23. more from the Bandon’s coffee pot loco
