  1. Where is this loco stored….asking for a freind
  2. Perhaps it’s something like this? Was used on lifting trains down the south west and I *think* it’s of CMDR origin (Ernie’s railway archive)
  3. I presume the loading gauge of the Luas tracks would mean a light locomotive would be at the head of the train. Limiting its potential? Also it would be going at less than walking pace, I presume a flag man would be required! And I’m sure the people living near the Luas wouldn’t be to pleased with that yolk coming through in the middle of the night?
  4. In my head cannon there would be a 4 piece ICR heading to Bantry going from Albert Quay to Bandon-Ballineen-Dunmanway-Drimoleague-Bantry.and a 2 piece 2600 operating between Cork and Bandon with stops at the Crossbarry, Ballinhassig, Waterfall, and somewhere in the Wilton/Togher area and Black ash. There would be proposals to connect the line to the Aiprort with a junction somewhere around Chetwynd but twould be like the Dublin airport situation! Freight on the line would have ended at most in 2006 with the end of Sugar Beet trains, in my own personal head cannon, Clon Juncton would be closed as a station but would be where beet was loaded Wellingtonbridge style. There would have been a mixed goods train similar to that of youghal running from bantry but that would have packed up in the late 1970s. The same probobly goes for Bantry Oil trains. It would be a line constantly under threat of closure (considering lines like the Sligo and Westport lines were under threat I’m sure that’s no suprise. Infact it’s possible that West of Bandon could close altogether in the late 1970s. Though it would still be a much better deal than the current west cork system got as a 1970s closure would make re-opening very pheasable
  5. Me too! I wonder would one regard the GM locos as 2nd generation deisals. That’s how I always saw it in my head cannon D, E, K, AEC railcar, A, C Sulzer (both types) ect. Spring to mind as first gen 2nd gen being the 121s, 141s and 181s
  6. Where did the brass come from?
  7. Those original 90 plates must be out there somewhere. A few GSRPS names spring to mind which might have a lead, but that’s about it
  8. Then I have missed it twice on two flying visits…must go to specsavers JB
  9. I’ll have to see that CBSC coach someday….is it on public display?
  10. Hello 228owenaboy. I have put a couple more hours into the game and managed to master it (as much as you can with a 10 year old PS4) and I must say it’s superb. Aside a few collisions with the Bangor train it’s been good fun, like a big model railway
  11. I’ve heard Olive Green, military green, dark green from 3 good sources…..I’ve packed up trying to actually find a decent colour match for now until somone magically finds a CBSC coach with a bit of paint left on it on the farm. And even that would be a very poor source!
  12. A few CBSC wagons curiously ended up in Dublin
  13. Ballymartle, South Cork
  14. As we have so many interested in the event, we thought we would give you an update on the scale of our Swap Meet in 2024. -The room compared to last year will be double the size of the previous year -We have not quite doubled the amount of people attending (still 50 tables!) but this is to allow more space as that was the major feedback with last years event. We at the swap meet Team love to hear what you feel could be improved as it helps us decide what to bring to the table. -There will be only a few layouts. The rest will be trade tables. We are less them 1 month away from our event….so get your Christmas stockings open! Thanks The Swap Meet Team
  15. Keep a keen eye on marks layout and you will see them
  16. Hello all We are having our 4th annual Swap meet in the Ballincollig Oriel House hotel. We will have NEARLY 50 trade stands this year in a bigger room than last year. From Trains to Cars and Tractors , If you need some Chrismas gifts. be sure to come down to Ballincollig for some serious Bargains.
  17. Hey Murphy’s say 2026….so surely sometime before the end of the decade!
  18. I suspect that means the C class failed the 141 is hauling it dead…..
  19. Quote from Irish railfans news from June 1965 Cork City Special Few Corkonians gave more than a passing glance to C206, six-wheeler 39M and bogie brake second 1895 on May 29, when they formed an IRRS (Munster Area) special from Cork Glanmire Road to Albert Quay, but the occasion was historic for several reasons. For the Munster Area of the IRRS it was their first special train outing ever; while for 39M it was probably the last run (she is already condemned to the scrap heap) and may indeed give this vehicle the claim to be the last six-wheeled coach to carry passengers in Ireland. The train itself is likely to be the last passenger train to traverse the Cork City Railway for, although no definite closure proposals have been put forward, there seems little likelihood of another passenger train being required to work into Albert Quay across the city streets and bridges. Indeed the demise of the Cork City line may well he dictated by the state of repair of the two lifting bridges across the Lee. The special train departed from Glanmire Road at 15:15 and made its way behind the station out on to Alfred Street. It passed through the "cut" on to Brian Boru Street, crossed the bridge of the same name, and, clattering over the points of the now little used Anderson's Quay siding, ran across Clontarf Street Bridge into Albert Quay loop. For good measure the train went as far out the "Bandon" as possible - to the stop block near the Douglas Road overbridge at which point the lifting ceased on Good Friday, April 18. Reversing to Albert Quay the party detrained, photographed and inspected the remarshalling of the train for the return journey.
  20. I’m doing research on something quite unrelated at the moment but found this gem. I believe it’s the last time a 6 wheeler saw revenue earning passenger use. An IRRS special from Kent to Albert quay note there is an X on the coach denoting it’s on death row. Also note. 21 people attended this tour, how many would go now! photo was taken by Sean O’Brien
  21. My ones arrived. God it feels like a long time since these were first announced in September of 2022
