464 is numbered and ready to go….or at least the top half of it is…..at least I can build half a loco! overall a huge difference between my converted Adams radial and bandon tank older brother no.479. right now she sits on a tri-ang wagon awaiting that sweet sweet chassis….I know Fowler 4F has been suggested In the past, but if anyone has any suggestions for what I can put underneath this loco, it would be greatly apericiated…..I don’t think 464 likes being a 4-4-0T too much

466, 469 And 470 (the latter was only there for a year) went up to dublin. 466 wore CIE green from 1948. Although 467 may also have worn green… Another option would be to role it out in what 00 Works perceived as the CBSC livery. I beleive this is another approximation of what some believe the CBSC to be like. The white lining on some coaches made it easier to identify some old kinsale branch photos I came across

I have no clue what the Green Bandon would have looked like, presuming it would be something like the one in the thread posted above, maybe minus the pale yellow transfers (I think your right in one, maybe 2 Bandon’s got CIE green) there is a 3d printed model there for experimentations so you never know, it may wear that CIE green 466 wore briefly while doing suburban services

More deveopment of the bandon tank shell, gone is the brass (which looked great to be fair) and in with with Satin black. From my photographs, it’s a perfect colour for CIE’s glossy black which very few engines wore but 464 was one of them (my profile picture on this forum as it stands is the livery I’m shooting for) but of course, these locos wore GSR grey and 3 variants of green I’m sure it all makes sense to just use the provided chassis and try to clue that together, which I might do for the craic, however it’s import to point out that if I didn’t have the factualits for making a body (I used nail scissors, tweezers and knackered bottle of superglue) I certainly don’t have it for a peice that requires such attention as a chassis, I’ll reiterate that my Fellow young west cork modeller had a full workshop of tools, solder and even the poppys workbench took, and he was unable to do the job when I purchased this kit a year or 2 ago, it was always my aim to try and find a doner chassis for the loco. I hope I can still find a good one without a good bit of modification. (Hence why I don’t have wheels, or motor this loco usually comes with) even if I found a decent 0-6-0, 2-6-2, 4-6-2 or 2-6-4 loco, any of those could be within reasonable modification for this loco

As a native West Corkonian would say “Era lash on the primer and the paint and twill be fine” Started looking at options for finishing the loco. My terrier chassis looks a bit ridiculous only being 1 foot larger the bogey wheels (in 1:1 scale) as while the bogey is perfect size, the terriers 4 foot Wheels are off by a 1.2 feet. And are not tight coupled. Some ideas for donor include Fowler 4F, Thompson L1 and some other 0-6-0t chassis like that of the Bachman billy

I made good use of previous threads on assembling this kit by @Mike 84C and @Georgeconna. Without there respective threads I probably would have been unable to attempt the piece because I was able to make the shell so easily, if I were to try the MGWR E class/J26 what would be the best donor 0-6-0 chassis

When the 141s came out, I was an infant! Unfortunately, we won’t see the MM 141 ever again, due to it being wrapped up with Bachman. I’ve been looking for the Black n tan 141 for ages . A few pop on on Ebay now and again for ludicrous prices. A FAIR price for those models due to the demand would be €200-€230 range if there was any justice

Yes I have….that’ll come back to bite me I’m sure

bandon tank shell is (aside from the roof that refuses to attach despite putting on the correct curve. It took a fair bit of figuring out as I found the constructions hard to follow. now as for the chassis, I reckon such a peice is beyond my ability. I’ll try toy around with a few options. But for now she didn’t look to bad.

I think that perhaps you may be disappointed by how crude this yolk is going to end up looking!

Ahhh perfect, I remember seeing that Bachman set when I was young and wanting one, unfortunately Back then, I was light years away from being able to afford it. Somone aught to convince UK companies to make a similar set again…..and then Hornby would try to copy it and sell it for cheaper!

They suffered from “crossly engine unreliability” Syndrome.

Not sure how this debate sparked again, it’s happens every once and a while, but I’ll give my 2 cents as per usual As somone who is barely old enough to remember the 121s and 141s in service. I also know another lad, slightly older then me who also models Irish. Between the 2 of us, I model 1950s-1960s, he models 1960s and also 1980s/90s. between the two of us, we both started in Hornby train sets, that can be made as cheaply as they are because the toolings were so old, and they could be mass produced. This is something neither Irish manufacturers have. Even murphy’s old stuff pre 071 Is tied up with Bachman, Lima and Hornby. Hence they cannot be used, never mind the “mass produce factor”. A large tender loco, two coaches, a ring of track with a siding cost about €120 in 2008 money, very hard to compete with that. The only current stock I get giddy for is the 201/mk IV set. Accociated with goods days out to Dublin for many of us. Not the best yolks in the world, but good memories most of our generation endured in them (whom just now are coming into the world of work) if they ever come out, my 201/mk IV’s will have to fit with the 1960s 22k’s and 29k’s are the Backbone of what’s working at the moment, if I’m correct the 27k is what Bachman made a variant of before (weather accurate or not, I’m not sure). 22k’s don’t have an accurate representation in Modelling yet, but since they have not been in service for too long, I think waiting another while for those locos to pick up nostalgic momentum is a better idea. Chris Dier makes a few of these Multiple units in RTR. Not much use to a child, buts there for us lot!

I never saw them before they look excellent.

Yes he is it’s a maybe on the cravens if he thinks the demand is there (that’s what he said in the initial announcement), I think no BR vans GNR, UTA, CIE green and CIE Black n tan. A nice variety of liveries, on those AEC sets. The only issue is the rolling stock isint there yet for if you wanted an intermediate coach

I’ve currently used a lot of 3D printing to make an F1 car for Leaving cert engineering. It really depends on the software your using, and if your willing to accept a few finish issues if your going with the cheaper printers. Brass makes by far a supirior model but it’s so much easier to knock it up in a 3d programme. Steam locos are generally square For me, I think that a mix of brass and 3d printing is the way to go. I haven’t seen many try it, but I think it would rectify some of the downsides of the oul 3d printer 3d printing a whole model without doner chassis is beyond my skill level for the moment. I have been toying around with my bandon tank which up on its 6’6 wheels serves nothing more as a silloette of the real thing…for now

Perhaps the were a bit strict on themselves? They certainly would be for the T&C section with good reason.

new year new layout 1990s container terminal and tmd
Westcorkrailway replied to Sean's topic in Irish Model Layouts
Looks good the lighting from this fish tank gives a unique look at the locos finish! Something I saw on Facebook marketplace that may be good for fiddle yards of this approximate era. somone is doing kits for the gantry that was once at Tralee. -
Yet another wagon rolls off the wagon works I will do a few more of these dapol open wagons when i get my hands on more white flying snail’s

I thought it would by mk3’s and 201s first and then cravens. I didn’t realise this plan had switched altogether

British locos and stock that can be disguised as Irish
Westcorkrailway replied to Westcorkrailway's topic in Irish Models
In this particular case, the modeller is not a fan of GSR/CIE grey…hence why black was chosen. He still has not come round to putting transfers on! -
British locos and stock that can be disguised as Irish
Westcorkrailway replied to Westcorkrailway's topic in Irish Models
Disguised J26 (J72) More accurate model of J26 these were a very universal machine making it to small lines like Courtmacsherry, Tramore and fenit. So if you wanted to make a shunting layout of a terminus on a small branch, these would be the job. SSM also make a kit for these locos -
