  1. Thanks JHB for all the information. Still hoping for a photograph showing the other direction.
  2. Front Cab of 900 Series BUT. I've started building the interiors of these Railcars and I'm looking for a picture of the interior looking towards the front drivers cab. In the drawing there appears to be a partition between the 1st Class compartment and the Drivers Cab including a door. I know the seats in the 1st Class compartment were tiered to allow all the Passengers a view through the front so I first assumed the Partition was partly glass. Some of the exterior photographs seems to suggest there was a seat opposite the Driver's seat. I know that what appears on plans is not always replicated on the actual Railcar, can anyone help on this please, a photograph would be great?
  3. David, you definitely are an artist in the true sense of the word.
  4. Make sure you clean the rails where you are going to solder, a fibreglass pencil will do the job. Tin the wires beforehand, a drop of flux on the rail, tiny piece of solder on the iron, place the wire against the rail, touch the wire with the iron, remove the heat but hold the wire in place for 5 secs, job done.
  5. Great progress, just thinking to myself it would be nice to start a layout all over again.
  6. Many thanks for the advice
  7. If you wanted to start casting for the first time, what would recommend as a starter kit?
  8. You have to put up a picture Tony.
  9. Looks good Glover, the weathering is very impressive also.
  10. I would agree with Noel, do not rush your track work, I would pin it temporary, wire the track and points and run trains on it for a month to test it for smooth running, electrical connectivity and good working points before contemplating painting and ballasting the tracks.
  11. Thanks Noel, great plans and lots of work ahead. Will you eventually be able to run trains from the lower to the upper section, that would be great to see?
  12. Thanks Guys for two very different solutions, I'll explore both. Great photo Tony of AEC 614 leading.
  13. I'm currently building a number of BUT Railcars. As you can see in the attached photograph (Keith Bannister) the engines were covered with mesh grills. I hope to replicate this but am at a loss as to where could I source mesh as fine as this, can anyone help please?
  14. Great pictures Noel, strange the way the different lighting can produce some very atmospheric images.
  15. Excellent picture, thanks for retrieving that one John.
  16. Great to see 360 degree view of your layout Noel, any plans on the lower section yet?
  17. Thanks Guys for your kind remarks. Popeye I didn't go down your road of making a wooden roof. I just used my old method of cutting a Comet roof down the middle and adding a plasticard strip to widen it. Then I use Isopon underneath to hold it in place. As for your first question "where do you keep it all", that's my problem, I'm running out of room.
  18. The first one might be 2518 20 ton Guinness Van (Whitehead?) The second one possibly a GNRI Cattle Van of which Provincial Wagons do excellent kits. 504 is a 20 ton Guinness Grain van, (Whitehead?)
  19. Review of 2016 Part II August I was building a bus kit, a GNR Gardner bus from Sunrise Models which I did in CIE livery. I needed a Brake Van for my BCDR locomotive so I converted a lookalike kit along with some plasticard. Came out OK. October saw the start of my Set of BUT Railcars which I got from Worsley Works. Most of September was taken up in gathering all the bits for the build. I got waylaid at the beginning of Dec with a SLNCR Railcar B in primer state from England. I had to finish it right away. I finish the year still with the BUT build but I suppose there is 8 of them to complete. I would estimate another two months to complete them. I would estimate another two months to complete them. I have another 5 projects waiting with one a rather complicated conversion. Have to stop after that.
  20. 2016 Review 2016 is gone and it’s time to a review of my Workshop output for the year. Jan produced Antrim Signal Cabin made from a laser cut card kit. Next came two buses, a KE and a School bus from Shapeway 3D kits This was followed by another 3D model by Richard EH of a GNRI M Brake Coach kit. A Q kit of an A Class was started but not finished until near the end of the year while a Bull Ant chassis was constructed by a friend. Two Steam locomotives were converted from RTR donors onto an GNRI S Class & a UTA S2 Class. A Christmas present was next a GNRI SG Class from Studio Scale Models. My first go at a brass built steam locomotive and it was not without its difficulties in the motor/gearing department. Let’s say it not one of my best pullers. Another one of Richard’s Shapeway kits was started in May. It’s a GNRI JT 2-4-2 locomotive. Also in May I resprayed some Auto Ballisters into IR livery and Weshty’s decals added the finishing touch. I finished off the month with some of Leslie’s Provincial Wagons I got at the Bangor Show in April. A nice relaxing build. The next couple of months were taken up with a conversion from an Adams Tank RTR to a BCDR Class 1 Bogie Tank. I slipped in a Comet Lorry conversion from John Mayner to a CIE Comet Tipper Lorry towards the end of June. Part II to follow
  21. David I've seen what you can do with a block of DAS clay, only good things to come.
  22. Something I have often thought about Eamonn but never got round to it. Well done, looking forward to seeing the result and also EM 50.
  23. Always something special about a train of Tank Wagons
