  1. Eoin, totally agree with that idea but I am going down the armour plate route as these run on a club layout and the members are not always gentle in the handling department. The plastic frames will become cosmetic. Mick
  2. I ask because I have been tasked with repairing a bogie off our CIE AEC DMU, it looks a a very flimsy concoction made of different types of plastics which I think rules out glue. And the wheels jump out of the frames at the slightest excuse! I have a plan! which involves making a brass subframe to support the wheels and bolting it to the existing bogie frame. Onward into the unknown! i think the problem has been caused by by bigfingershortsightedismness so a rerailing ramp would be a good plan.
  3. I know its a cost, as is any security, but why could the models be fitted with small alarm tags? Lights flash, hooters blow, bells ring as a thief tries to leg it! Like the tension lock coupling idea.
  4. Whestys SSM Bandon tank makes up into a very nice loco, is not a hard kit to build and it would be a shame if his sales dived because a ready to run version is brought out. I wonder how many J15 kits he has sold since 00 works delivered their J15? And I stick my hand up to owning an 00 works one. I still think the D&SER 2-6-0 is the one for a manufacturer to go for as its a visible loco that would be at home on many/all the layouts featured on this group. For me the interest in Irish Railways is building and adapting models to fit the Irish scene; but that's just me sayin!
  5. Your work never ceases to amaze! It all helps to raise the bar for the rest of us! And a bridge with no bus on it; excellent. Ken, please keep the very good work coming.
  6. Love the weathering on the J15! Rusty chimney and smokebox looks brilliant! I want to give mine the treatment, as also my 121, buuuuuut! So I'm thinking shut the eyes and dive in.
  7. I have used resin from Alex Tiranti , bought as a kit and found both resin and rubber had/have a very long shelf life. I also found you have to be prepared to throw away unsatisfactory castings or repurpose them as grounded bodies. I also found a mix of thin superglue and talcome powder is good for fixing small holes etc; Thank you Alan for sharing your excellent layout and models. I'd travel a few miles if you exhibited your layout!
  8. J-Mo heres my 850 starting from a V3 and my Woolwich with a few "tweaks" With 850 you have to be willing to take the saw to the patient! I was quite brutal! and did wonder if it would work out OK!
  9. Was David the guy who ran DJ Models and had links to Dapol? Rather a shame the loco never happened, maybe one for IRM to run with ? As the loco is/was visible on the preserved railtour scene, would it sell? only market research would establish. I hope it happens, hopefully before I loose the ability to use a controller!
  10. That really needs a 7-1/4" gauge crew to operate it! Amazing
  11. Where can the story of these government flog offs be found?
  12. Nice one Leslie I can almost smell the smoke! I get severe footplate envy when I see those sort of things!!
  13. Poppys Wood Tech jig was how I did the chassis for my Bandon tank, worked a dream, well worth the small outlay. Am now doing a kit? ha ha for an L&Y 4-6-0 .How inaccurate can a kit be???? Tullygrainey with your skills and patience you should go for it. Locos flying off the workbench!
  14. Fabulous! And worth all the trials and tribulations. Thank you for posting its build with the ups and downs.
  15. I love the moody sky, very interesting cloud formations and quite emotive. How far is Cork from Maam Cross? When I volunteered on the FR I drove from Banbury to North Wales. 162 miles each way, up on Friday and back on Sunday night! Friday was always a crazy trip to be there before the pub closed! And sleep in a skanky old caravan. So come on you lads!
  16. Fantastic!
  17. Stable, now thats a new one! just looking in my desk drawers I need to keep the marbles till at least a ton! Then be able to get under the baseboard to do the soldering stuff, so give it my best shot or get the finger out. Killarney beckons.
  18. That is a very good idea David, I definitely see things that would be useful and forget where they are and spend frustrating time trying to find them again! I'm often told its an age thing!
  19. looking at your closeup photo you did very well to get the finish you have. A zoom in and the printing looks like "measles" ! Much as I would like one I am glad I gave it a miss. I wonder if Simon Dawson can get his models resin printed? Hope your health and strength is getting back to normal Ken.
  20. Got a few of those on your list young Westcork!
  21. Not 3d printed but a cheap Hornby hack to get a J 10 ish! Started as a J69 and went from there not spot on but captures the feel of a J10, sorry about the background clutter.
  22. I logged on to BRM this am and oh joy! no popups or ads of any kind.
  23. Looks very good John, all that shunting will keep the old grey brain cells very active!!! One of my favourite layouts Is Liberty St; similar principle, was in Model Railroader 15yrs ago. Hope its warmer in NZ than it is here!
  24. I get the impression that BRM is owned by Warners publishing, if I'm wrong please correct me but a post from one of the moderators gave me the feeling that "pay us money and we can stop the popups" feels a lot like mild blackmail. I'm with Mayner on the width of expertise and like IRM help is so freely given.
  25. The pop ups are a real pain on my laptop but I wonder just how many sales/perceptions they generate? Because it works totally counter intuative with me and makes me far less inclined to buy from anyone that bombards me with pop ups. This a shame because a well known supplier of DCC parts etc is only 14 miles away.
