    MK3 Scrapping

I think the mk4 stock amd railcars have grey bogies, so that's probably why it is painted. Rich, I think, and I could well be wrong, the green is a different shade. Wouldn't it look a bit bland if it was all the one colour?
  2. I agree with RedRich, the Dapol pockets are great irish rolling stock. Some people extend them, and strictly speaking you should, but I kept mine as they are, it doesnt bother me that much not fitting 45 foot boxes in
  3. Thanks for the answer! I never realised that a 121 had been involved in a fatal accident, and obviously every step should be taken to prevent it happening again. I hope that one of the preserved examples makes it back out on the main line again soon, they are the only type of Irish GM I never actually saw in service. Even if one ran at Downpatrick it would be fabulous.
  4. I noticed talk in another thread of US locos running long hood forward, and this made me think of the 121s. I understand that for most of their lives they operated cab forward only for reasons of visibility, but given that they (just about) overlapped with the last years of steam, surely driving one long hood forward was just the same as a steamer, and drivers would be familiar with those? Also, in the event that a 121 ran on the mainline in preservation, would it have to run in consist with an 071 to avoid running hood forward? Sorry if that was a bit long, I just got a fit of curiosity! Thanks
  5. The spectrum runs smoothly, if a little noisily. Doesnt bother me though, its a good loco at a decent price. Might get a Kato or athearn one eventually
  6. Just watched that, incredible! I have the spectrum range sd45 , how does the Kato compare?

So will a GM (NIR?) be hauling an ecs working to dundalk? That would be something I would go to see!

    MK3 Scrapping

Last I checked they are still in dundalk. Maybe there is going to be a surprise announcement about hourly enterprise services with overhauled mk3 stock. Doubt it though...
  10. I wonder will Merlin be in traffic in time for the Halloween or Christmas trains? Might be worth battling through throngs of infants if she is!
  11. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I am going to take a look at the station in hope of seeing an 071 in the new livery, as I have only seen orange or black and silver ones before
  12. Awh. I hope they find somewhere to display it soon. Is there anything else in the way of model shops/ railway stuff worth having a look at in malahide?
  13. Hi there, I will be taking a 3 day trip to malahide with my family in a couple of weeks, and I wondered if any of you guys knew if the Fry model railway is still open at the castle? Thanks, James
  14. Fabulous Model! I once had the privilege of riding in the real A39s cab on the DCDR when she double headed with 146, it was incredible
  15. Right im getting this now. Thanks guys
  16. Ah, I see now! What actually is the difference between insulfrog and electrofrog? I am getting the hang of things now I think
  17. Sorry if this sounds stupid, but what do you mean you didnt need a switch? I assumed this was how you chanhed point from the control panel?
  18. What sort of switch do I use? Also do the motors come with instructions on wiring to switches?
  19. The layout is going to be oo9, and the only points peco make for that scale is electrofrog. Besides motors, is there any other way to move points without the 'hand of god' descending?
  20. Hi there, I'm planning a new small layout, and want to install point motors this time. However, I'm confused about the whole thing. I have been looking at the peco range on ehattons, but I dont understand what does what. Could someone please advise me on what I need to buy and do? Preferably I would like to use peco motors, as they seem quite cheap and I will be be using their track.

  22. If you look on the RPSI website it says 85 might be featuring in the tour, if she is passed for traffic in time.
  23. I'd say she'll be back. Probably the RPSI would think about overhaul once 85 is a few years in traffic. Just guessing though, I hope she is back anyway. Anyone else going on that tour?
  24. Helps a lot Dunluce, I have exactly the same crane laying around from years ago and I am now thinking of having a stab at replicating your effort.
  25. I like what you have done with the crane. What colour is it under the weathering?
