He means weedspray crew vans....I'm sure?? As you can see from the black and tan shot of 169 (?) it's been around in yellow a long while and fading to salmon pink ever since. 638a is listed as converted TPO 2771 into a dormer coach for the weedspray set, based at Dublin Heuston. (I think that should be 2971?) CIVIL ENGINEERING - MAINTENANCE OF WAY, with SPEED 50 MPH MAX., running numbers 638A, and CIE broken wheel logo. and later INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION Studio Scale Models does them. http://www.studio-scale-models.com/TFreight.shtml# Weedspray Rake (F13) €9 HTH Richie.

I did get a chuckle, not sure why, when I saw all those spoil wagons heaving across the points on Bleach Green on some of the youtube videos. Delighted to see Mr. Lagan getting stuck in with a layout, the man just talks and talks, would be lovely if he did a layout Top trumps to all involved, well and truly deserving of an award. Great to see GNR(I) really socking it to the lads on the other side of the ditch!!!

threw it into CAD, scaled it up. If you put a 201 at the main line exit on the top left, it'll sit over the point blades. I assume you need it to work as a headshunt to push the oil wagons back into the storage area, or have I that wrong? R.

More than two years since I started this thread, what an appalling work rate! So last week I had to take a few snaps and do some tests on weight, short radius stuff, pretty boring when you're doing in almost laboratory style. So I got annoyed, and made a start. At least I can use it to QC test the wagons....! Do I make the disused line a working element, or a static thing? The blades of the points wouldn't allow it to marry without a silly amount of engineering, and counsel with Garfield set my mind at ease. Leave it out. A fair bit of bodging of the existing stuff to make it look like a long slip, rather than off the shelf. The length of flexitrack is legit 1980's lima stuff, with prototypical rust an all. Throw nothin out! I chose to solder all the track together from underneath, avoid all that dropper business. Just go for pure electrical continuity. (bound to regret it....) The next step is to cut slips of 2mm styrene and fill in the sleeper gaps before a nice coat of readymix tiling adhesive goes in to hide the sleepers completely. Then it's on to cobbling time!

Great stuff! Tus maith, leath na h-oibre and all that (A good start is half the work) My only concern with a board that deep is the reach limit, which is somewhere between 750 and 900mm. I assume you can work on the inner more unaccessible parts and then shove it back into the corner?- 26 replies

If I wore a hat Nelson, I'd happily tip it in your direction. That is some top drawer work, but also the tidiest workbench known to man (which concerns me!). More please, young man, more.

Very impressive interior for the buffet. All scratchbuilt or did you bodge an existing? I have a few tin vans of yours in the works too, but not in quite an immaculate condition!

Have to agree with Horse here, (as I generally do), Worsley all day long. SF tends for quantity, not quality alas. Few photos of the prototype to assist. (My missus is from that neck of the woods, just in case anyone's getting stray ideas....)

Agreed, with Red, the reason they're staggered is so that the ends of the rivets don't bump into each other as they are fixed, creating a stronger joint. If all the rivets were on the same plane, you'd have a Michael Bay situation, and nobody wants that

Yerra no, shur the frames are above in a Golf Course bridge and then it had a cameo in Red Rock on TV3 (Tomo de Turf SE04EP11), but finished life playing a bit-part roll as a minor criminal in Thomas the Tank Engine. It also stunt doubled for U-96 in the classic underwater drama "Das Boot". True Story....
