Whether I agree or not, these posts need to be moved to another thread. It spoils one of the finest threads on this board. Perhaps the mk2 thread modz?

Rich, for every one question you ask, there are probably about 10 lurkers who want the same information so ask away. As for DCC, I'm still on wind up technology r.

The vallejo primers are not to be thinned. I've never thinned them as they are especially formulated. Problem here is the airbrush - take off the outer shield, the nozzle cover, and the nozzle itself and clean then until you can see your face in them. Then attack the inside of the nozzle with the needle aggressively. Therein lies your problem Jamie!

Righto, just a quick posting of the almost finished E Class - just lamp hangers and two handrails on the front and she's done. The side panels cut out, with openings for access to valves etc. and the holes for the handrails are machine cut also. The marks are from where I put a pen through to drill the thicker styrene below for reinforcement to stop the sides bowing. This happened on the first two prototypes. Again on the early mockups, the intakes at the front were too deep and interfered with mounting the chassis, so it's a compromise but a worthwhile one. this is the Hollywood Foundry little beasty with stringers to mount to the body. The chassis frame is coming together. All the parts are from Dartcastings with larger buffer overlays to match CIE oddities. So far so good. The running gear had to be scratchbuilt, but I plan on using alternative aftermarket bits in future. The plastic rods are off a clean/new/unused toilet brush. Squirt of buffer beam red, and not happy with it, so gave it a lighter shade. Now here's the kicker. No black is ever truly black, so I painted it a Wehrmacht feld grau or something. A dark grey, with all the white bands in place. Using Payne's Grey - which is a dark dark blue/black I washed the entirety of the model. When dry it has a nice mottled effect similar to what happens to paint on not surfaces. This was then washed off where appropriate. This is the kind of thing going on underneath. This is Bill the driver. He's opening a jar of pickles. But they've gone off, so he's slid back a window to let the humm out The grilles for the bonnet vent is made from fancy bits off a christmas cracker. Cheers for all the kind comments. Richie.

If you've painted it and let it overnight it should be good enough to work on. Sounds like you're using a decorators masking tape rather than tamiya? Trick I was shown in a P&D shop once. Cut off your masking tape strip, and stick it to the thigh of your trouser leg several times to reduce the tackiness. If there is too much resistance when removing the tape, get a hairdryer and warm up the masking tape and the model. This will reduce the resistance and it should come off easier. Richie.

From what I've heard from the "Heuston Driver", the problem is with the chinese not willing to communicate/respond. Pretty hard to issue a press release if the man himself is still in the dark. Anyhoo, they are great coaches with the painting of the central band done by a sloppy operator. It's very fixable. As for the colour not being tan enough, well that's up to preference/memory and nostalgia. Also easily fixable, but i agree - shelling out further wonga after the initial purchase is not ideal.

+1 - well said daithi. Dive - sort out your pm inbox. Its full.

Top class stuff. The egv and the fading on 087 is delish.

€35 notes for masking off the centre, taking the body apart and adding the desired Colour? Someone's having a laugh Dive.

That's one of your Shapeways things you dropped up to me Hollywood Foundry chassis, fran. Beautiful smooth runners, though a little bit tricky to figure out a mounting strategy. Cheers Des. Sorry about the orientation (cheers JS) - one would have thought with smartphones knowing which way up to take the bloody photo, it could also recognise how to post the thing correctly. Back to the old Fujifilm so.... R.

A couple of. Shots of things to come over the weekend. A shapeways yoke revisited and an entirely scratchbuilt e class.

As someone who approaches conservation and restoration from an architectural angle, i think as an island we have to be very grateful that the we very marginally affected by the destruction of europe, and the built heritage of the railway system is still largely intact. The attitude across the ditch was far more severe with buildings being tossed for no reason whatsoever in the Beeching Era. I've had the good fortune to know displaced paddy's in london in the eighties who were involved in "super modren"'plans for St. pancreas, kings cross and others and they are not very proud of it. We may have only a handful of steam locos left, most static in cultra, but they won't be cut up any time soon. And if they ever return to the rails, the built environment will be in place. It's just a shame no MGWR variants remain but those tears can be held for another hanky. R.

Super job franno. Are you going to add the rivets etc to the smokebox wrapper or are they already done? I do like a few rivets of an evening...

Superb work Noel. I find it amazing that there is more interest in railcars than per way models, yet the railcars are least likely to shift as an rtr model! It is interesting though how the laminates have a determined following, nearly on par with the IE/IR twin striped rolling stock. And guess what, 121 an A class are the most desirable - who'd a thunk it.

Excuse me for butting in, but i see 4 pages of what broithe has spread over many a field. Its' a watch that doesn't work, right? And that's what the Beatles ' holding company are selling? And they don't sell apples either?

If that's your strategy Pat, by copying my bench, I'm both humbled and disgusted all at the same time. My bench is a bastion of workfulness.

Converting a mk1 to a mk2 class 80 is not going to happen. Ever. Back away from the workbench.

Nelson, I'm shocked at what you have done. It does not represent the fine pin striped attributes of the board members of the BCDR / GNRI / NCC / UTA in their fine suits. You are hereby struck from their list of wagons builders and will live in a pox house for your days. Honourable Lord Monty, First Lord of Glenderg. Tut bloody Tut.

Dublin to Cork in 83 seconds.

Thought it was the Sandite Class 80 for a minute! Not sure if Shems love of the yellow goes beyond Portlaoise!! -
Yip, it sure is. In fairness though, when the results come back, perhaps Noel will have had a chance to think about the wider possibilities of such a survey and make it more comprehensive? It only took a few minutes, and whille I reckon it'll say "99% want a 121 and an A Class next week, these polls have huge potential to inform the smaller manufacturers, not just Mr. Murphy - freight, decals, paints, kits, buildings, narrow gauge, steam, railcars, and so on. You'll need a rolling mill, but if you speak to Des at SSM he may be able to point you in the right direction.
