Afraid not Stephen, and though I could make a decent effort at guesswork, I'd rather the likes of Riversuir, Enniscorthyman etc. might be able to contribute to confirm locations.

These photos might assist. The "barrier" wagon appears to be no more than a 20' flat, sans container. Cork Shed in the background? You'll notice the wagon below used to be a magnesite wagon that has had it's chamfered hopper filled in to create a larger hopper. Bit of a mongrel Hope they help somewhat. R.

I meant to add that the Jouef coaches are perfectly sized for the Cu Na Mara coaches, they are a scale 4mm longer than the lima's and take the 9 windows arrangement better than the 8 windows of the standard lima coach. Avoid the brake end (LIMA L205162w), and their restaurant coaches, as these have different roof vent arrangements to the Irish prototype. Also, some of the lima coaches may come without buffers (for some odd reason) and just have two nipples of plastic where they should go. A pack of these is a handy thing to have in the bashin' box - http://www.dartcastings.co.uk/mjt/2934.php Vac pipes and other goodies to tart up the tail ends can also be sourced from Dart. R

Jouef are closest to the right size, but are rare. Couplings and corridor connections are rough enough. Lima are great to work on. Hornbys windows may crack when being removed. Rails of Sheffield have lots of bulk buy options on Lima, it's where I'd go.

I'm not sure what the 80's reference is Noel. Either way put the wallet aside, the reprayed cravens are no longer available.

But Fran, the testimonials from the CEO alone on the website.....

I think someones having a laugh here, mainly me. Back in May of this year I set about with the RPSI to make blue and cream cravens, for a fundraising gig, not for profit, not for loss sort of thing. In order to avoid a whole bunch of taxes, vat, and so on, I set up the site to funnel all orders through it. The thing never came to pass, so chill out lads. I used Bosko's servers , as I do for my work emails etc., so no there will be no rtr turfburners. Ballast wagons indeed! R. P.s. 2000 posts yay!

Any man that can be described as a master modelmaker who has a bent for all things Heath Robinson earns my heartfelt best wishes.

Most Excellent JHB, that's worth a pint of stout alone

I think you missed my point. Farranfore is actually rail served, the only airport in the state to be treated thus. There is a reasonable justification to connect Shannon and Dublin to rail heads, not because of nonsense "1%" population arguments but because of US pre-clearance, duty free, tourists, the last parish before the atlantic, and the reasonable expectation that one can land at either airport and travel onward without the need to get a bus or taxi, fairly awkward modes of transport one might argue, particularly if english is not your first language. From the National Spatial Strategy "In the Mid-West, Limerick/Shannon needs to be strengthened — within the terms of the Land Use and TransportationStrategy now being developed. This will provide a platform for capitalising on the strategic location of this gateway, where a number of road and rail transport corridors converge, there is an international airport at Shannon and ports inthe Shannon estuary." The "greater good" applies in this instance - the Clongriffin route works in so far that housing is not zoned in that area and can be developed at CPO costs without interfering with a whole pile of residents. Again, it's a critical development issue. "In relation to air access, a critical mass of population is required within an airport’s catchment to support a range ofservices to and from a wide choice of destinations. A number of key points arise from this.In Ireland, Dublin Airport serves the city, region and country and offers the greatest number of internationalconnections. It has direct links to nearly all of the main cities in Europe and a limited number of key routes to theUnited States. In 2001 a total of seventy airlines served 122 international destinations from Dublin Airport. Expandingthe level of services available from Dublin Airport to an even wider range of destinations is essential in the interests ofunderpinning Ireland’s future international competitiveness. However, in a liberalised aviation market, route planningdecisions of airlines depend primarily on the anticipated level of demand. The national and regional benefits ofexpanded services from Dublin Airport can be enhanced through improved connections with (i) the integrated publictransport network proposed by the Dublin Transportation Office in A Platform for Change, (ii) the national roads networkand (iii) regional airports." http://nss.ie/pdfs/Completea.pdf for a more comprehensive view.

Cheers Thump, twas me For the novice and those scared of ruining their precious babies, this method is idiot proof. It takes a clean month for the stuff to dry fully, so you can tart about with the finish for ages. And as thump says, don't like it, wash it off. The military and aircraft modellers have been at this for longer than we have, and if you check out some of their methods on YouTube, you'll be in for a rare treat. Enamels have a lower surface tension than acrylics and tend to run into joints quicker than a scanger on the quays. Always keep a bit of tissue handy, in both cases......

Yeah, kind of wondering meself. For the hard of hearing, it's quite simple. They have too many pension contributions and so instead of being Fleischmann Loadsamoney ltd. they are going to be Fleischmann buggerallcash ltd. and let the german government pick up the bill for the pensioners. Poor aul Angela....and the sweet face on her an all....

Cobblers, Dave, complete Cobblers Awls. Trying to apply European standards and density arguments to this wonderfully obtuse little island is like saying that the only rail served airport in this state should be Farranfore. R

B - Cork Bandon & South Coast D - Dublin and South Eastern J - Timoleague & Courtmacsherry R - Cork & Macroom W - Waterford & Tramore Rolling stock from GNR(I) had the suffix N with the strange proviso that coaching stock had also a prefix "C" I've seen early CIE wooden panelled departmental coaches with the JL suffix also -

Well said Des, even if you used the word "iteratively"

Next time Nelson, will you put a 1p coin or euro equivalent alongside so that the silent majority can get a grasp of exactly how fantastic your model making skills are? After that you can paint the wagons Queen George Blue to keep JHB happy!

What a wonderful man. He deserves that "certain peace".

Great to see some top quality work on the forum. Too many talkers not too many dooers.....

Offended indeed! What's the old joke about taxi drivers in Cork love the bad traffic so much, and not for the increased fare, but so as they don't have to actually leave their beloved city?
-
I'm surprised they got Cork people to attempt to leave Cork, such is their love of the place. Brave move...

Dude, I hate to say it, but you've made a total mess of that kit. There are lumps hanging out in parts where they shouldn't and parts that aren't even close to being near where they should be. take the thing apart and start again - and I mean this in the most positive spirit - it will help long term.
-
Edit - did you just suggest renumbering a loco and THEN respraying it???
-
If I recall correctly, the kit is supposed to also have the intermediate sides. I have 2 kits downstairs that are awaiting listing...

Bang on for the above advice. As for products - once you've the surface varnished and ready for a decal, you can use Micro Sol and Micro Set to apply, or Vallejo Decal Medium and Decal Set - it's a two stage process that will take about 24 hours for your decals to disappear into the surface of the model and leave no raised carrier film. One helps it adhere to the surface, the other makes it melt into the surface. When complete, you should have no silvering or shinyness under the decal. Once done, give it a blast of Klear/Varnish as Riversuir rightly says and any different surface finish will disappear. Noel, you only need to gloss the area you are applying the decal. When you are finished, you will respray over it. If the finish doesn't match or stands out from the rest of the loco, it's only at that point you'll need to consider re-varnishing the entire piece of stock. ...and tip of the week here. If you don't have access to a model shop that has all of the above in stock, pop down to your local shop and get a bottle of clear vinegar. Same stuff as Micro Sol. Couple of cap fulls in water, in your mixing bowl, all you need. Try it on some spare first though. R.
