  1. I'm all out of double entredes, but I'm sure broithe will be along shortly to slip one in. TurboCAD, the software equivalent of schrodingers cat. It works and it doesn't, all at the same time. There is bound to be an option to set the accuracy to a decimal point or two? That would drive me barmy. Styrene is the way and the light, and laminiations of several thin pieces are always better than a single thick piece. (What have i started....)
  2. the thread above needs the title "Warning - contains graphic content"....
  3. Not only do I find this thread fascinating, but it's quite possibly one the funniest also. Keep up the good work
  4. Frig GC! Meant to send on a few drawings t'other day. I suspect they belong at the far end rather than on the large wheeled end? R
  5. Cheers lads, and Dive that model/photo is from a prototype that's close to going into the bin. The IRRS furnished me with photos as best they could and it transpired that the ground floor windows were more arched and there were windows to the rear to control the Newcommen Curve section - total redesign. As I say, the early version is close to going into the bin, but if anyone wants to take if off my hands, they are welcome to it. Collection only mind. Edit - Dive is the lucky new owner of Amiens Street Signal Box
  6. Ah the "Biscuit Tin" in all her glory ...
  7. Looking superb Timmy.
  8. I love this kind of nonsense! long may it continue... p.s - the frames are buried in Wrenneires back yard - don't tell a soul.
  9. More photos and possibly a thread roxy.....
  10. It seems clear having spent quite a bit of time with the coaches that something like this happened.... Boss Wun "Send these coaches out to the painting contractor, our job of manufacturing is done here, nice work guys - and just before christmas too!" Out they go in a van to painter. Boss Tuw "Ah, these yokes again. Shur we'll stick the rough mask on these, no need for the fine one - the two white stripes will hide a multitude" *works away and completes them all Boss Wun "um, there's no white stripes going on these" Boss Tuw "I've an idea - paddy** will never notice" Boss Wun "Good man, whack em on a boat" I've no doubt but there will be a bunfight with the manufacturer after this and Wrenn is spot on that it might affect future relationships. How it's resolved is anyone's guess, but I'm sure it will. I'm reliably informed that the Man himself is aware of these issues, and indeed this thread, and is upset by both.
  11. we resume.... So what you see above are the 2 weathered roofs and a weathered side, both with the dirt toned down so it sits in cracks like the real thing, but both under the spotlight of 3 workzone high intensity lamps - not unlike those in glass cabinets in shops and the like. The pot of "Dirt" in the corner will be applied to the rear, and tumblehome, with an airbrush and any excess on the upper panel taken off with very fine 00000 metal wool. There's no camera or photoshop trickery involved here. It's just a spotlight where I do my spray work - I know it's at night - I'll get more in the natural light tomorrow. I put two locos in the booth - the one on the right is my trusty IE loco that has paint match scars all over the roof, but it's lighter in shade by about 10%. The 183 is still in it's box cause it has a shade of peach that my mother wore on a hat to my wedding, but I ain't never seen it on a 141, and I spent my childhood beside the lmk-lmk jct line. She will be corrected in time. As for photographic evidence see below. This is a rake of MK2's in both "tippex" and "supertrain" - I don't see much difference. See the light at the exit to kent hitting on the right of the coach - does that look like dirty brown like the vaunted 071? Nope. Oh, but perhaps this one does, but, what, hey wait a minute that's not supertrain? Penultimately, this photo tells a key story - while the resolution is crap, this man had a good iso camera. The brown of the EGV in the background, versus the brighter orange tone, even in an overcast dublin, tells me that there was a decent variant. Lastly, This is a selection of MKIII coaches that have come from all the pro sprayers, here and abroad, myself included. Shilling if you can tell me which is right? In summation, these are very fine coaches, that need a bit of tlc to get right, but don't you have to put on buffer beam detailing with locos and such? So if you can handle buffer beam detailing, you can handle a pen/lining pen/rotring pen, right? Paddy Murphy Esq did not spray the black band on them, so give him a break. Some clown on the far side of the planet screwed up, but that's no reason not to invest in them. Personally, I'll be buying all eight when I can, and weathering them as above. They just shout Miners Strike, Three Day Weeks, and "Don't be a TV sponger" to me. The defence rests, M'lud.
  12. In this case of People's Opinion Vs Paddy Murphy Esq., I'd like to produce some evidence for the defence M'Luds, ladies and langers - and thank JHB for putting me on the right track. I must begin with the models themselves - I got two delivered today from a chap who wanted the "right" ones. He left me off to make a call on weathering colour and so on. I only did it as I felt I owe a duty to this little corner of the internet to put the hours in. I will return to normal tomorrow. On first inspection, they are bang on models - better than the hornby ones by a country mile. End detail is particularly good, as is the underframe detail. The roof can sit up a little at either ends, but I think this has got to do with the internal glazing being stuck down with rat gut, rather than glue. An easy fix. There are some decoration issues, no doubt, again easily fixed. The roof pops off at either end, and with a bit of force comes away easy. I mixed up a pot of "irish Dirt" gouache and liberally applied and put to one side. Now, to take off the chassis... Push out the little nibs at the either end Then repeat with the central ones show There are some wiggles and overspray, but nothing to get excited about. IF you like watching trains with the 2 foot rule, they are bang on. If you like to lick and sniff them, well you may want to correct it Here's the bodyside under harsh workbench light, and by golly it looks bright indeed. Here's the dried roof... And now the removal of that dirt with a brush and some clean water, leaving the gouache where you'd expect it to stay. I got a rotring pen - 0.18mm and drew a nice thin line from one point to the other. You can see the reflection of the ink in the lower left. I also filled in beneath the doors, cos the photos told me to. This is the Standard Open under distress. To seal the water based ink - and this should work with felt tip permanent markers too - I sealed it with Vallejo Gloss Varnish - 2 min touch dry time, and water based. Two minutes later and a coat of gunk on. brief adjournment M'Lud..
  13. If you can't fit Limerick Junction into the room, I'm not sure how you're gonna fit Claremorris in either - they're almost identical in size
  14. I posted similar on page 3 of this thread - I do query the colour, as I know the photographer to be highly professional. On the flipside, if the orange is too bright, those looking for an EGV in later livery can just add two white lines and job's oxo. Anyway, they all require muck and dirt, so do send them to your local re-spray pro (not me) to get the right one if you're truly passionate about the orange being "tan". R

  16. I tried to write something useful a few times, and got it wrong each time. Your dad has, unknowingly, helped us clowns out so many times. I say "clowns" in the nicest possible way. I never knew the man, but I knew of the man. My throat is constricted, and my eyes are glassy , men of his ilk will not grace our way ever more - we have lost a legend this day.
  17. My apologies - it was my original photo, and my abuse with photoshop. I forgot to calibrate my central monitor recently, so it's not as "tan" as originally hoped. I often wonder why marketing and branding gurus don't spend some time/money on messing around in photoshop before committing to painting real stock.
  18. The contract with the chinese manufacturer was signed many many months ago. Nothing to do with Euro's recent rise and fall unfortunately.
  19. It's also to assist the emergency services in the event of a fire/accident in identifying access points. Give it a few years fran, all doors, no matter the livery will have to be neon orange or something daft.
  20. Putting the Class 33 up against the Silverfox version is like talking about Donegal and Kerry GAA teams, and arguing over which one of them is going to win the All Ireland Senior Hurling Final. They're both brutal.
  21. you could drill two small holes in the skirt of the A Class, and insert a commoner garden staple at the right height, glue from the rear, and paint to your desired finish. This would snare the coupling hook of the coach or whatever - save you a bit of pain? R
  22. Burn - 00 and H0 are simply two different scales of vehicle that work on the same track. All irish locos are scaled to 00. If you wanted a murphy model 141 in H0, you'd have to lash it into your "honey I shrunk da kids" 2000 machine, and shrink everything bar the axles by about 14% and you'd have a H0 one. Have you come upon a secret society or such where there's sudden demand? Ah - I see what you're at - cut off the european thing - glue an NEM pocket on somewhere at a matching height to your locos' pocket - stick in a tension lock coupler. Job's Oxo.
  23. Is that supposed to be "tan"?
  24. Nice work Dave. I assume the "green belt" area comes with full planning permission for a load of 2 bed semi-detached jobbies? It's crying out for overdevelopment
