Somewhere on Flickr - I think the National Archives page had it for their "where's this" daily submission. Cant find it online now though...

    This perhaps?
  3. Thanks a mil Lough Erne. I built it on a 59' Chassis, but next time I'll get it spot on. Really appreciate it. Richie.
  4. I took these many years ago atop the Mourne Mountains, in the hope of one day doing a "lonely hilly station" with timber loading etc. diorama. I had intended that there would be a bank of trees and landscaping in front to blend correctly, and hardstanding concrete, diesel tanks and lots of rain! Anyhow, if any of you guys think it's of use, print it off and use away. It should extend to about 6 Feet without looking odd. Preview. Full size http://www.glenderg.com/drawings/Mourne_Mountains.jpg Usual "Fair Use" restrictions apply. I know I took loads of photos over the years for different "phantom" layout backscenes, if I find them I'll upload them here. Richie.
  5. Diamond JHB, many thanks.
  6. Are you looking for those ones specifically or the more modern RAWIE ones?
  7. Oh wow, that looks gorgeous indeed! And the I think I'm on track for handover of the station building at Blackrock...
  8. Evening all, I have a query about a bogie van in Des Coakhams, carraige book, which the Ulstermen, and possibly others, here may be able to help me with - and this is a bit of a long shot, so I've coloured up the black and white of it. This was taken in Antrim on 12th June 1964 on a special working. It is a Class M5 High Elliptical vestibuled bogie van. More than likely constructed in Dundalk Works for the GNRI, then handed over to the CIE upon the big split. I've never seen anything like it, and am wondering what it's history is. I've trawled every B&W photo and source, and the only thing I can find is a cousin, here behind the tender. Any help would be appreciated, as I do like peculiar prototypes, particularly of this era. And it doesn't appear to match the flowery stock of previous eras - has an Art Deco thirties thing going on. Richie. (edit - no offence intended with the reproduction of the two images to either Ernie or Midland Publishing)
  9. Nice work, but little johnny looks like a right handful!
  10. Wrenn would be the man with that info Up, I've no clue
  11. Early clockwork mechanisms and electric motors were difficult to fit within HO scalemodels of British prototypes which are smaller than equivalent European and US locomotives. A quick and cheap solution was to enlarge the scale of the model to 4mm to the foot but keep the 3.5mm to the foot gauge track. This also allowed more space to model the external valve gear. 12. These might help as a start, showing freight flows out of limerick and limerick junction in around 2000, most gone now. ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/sets/72157627059492296/
  13. Genius solution! What was I thinking...
  14. Superb job popeye, really impressive work, as with all your work thus far. Can i be a pain in the arse though? The body of the ballast wagon penetrates the frame to discharge onto the track. Youd have to retrofit that frame or better still cast a new one, to allow a prototype hopper to sit in. Same applies to the cement bubble - it has two fat nipples that poke through the chassis, to two distinct discharge points. You could cut the hoppers and bubbles off at the solebars and all would be good. Looking forward to seeing the end results. Richie. Ps, Des at SSM, a detail nerd, thinks i'm a pain the arse, so take my suggestions lightly!
  15. Tom, If you, or any of the other members here for that matter want your photos stitched together, I'll happily do it for the price of a pint. If you can upload high res photos, and take loads of them, you should have a decent background panaroma, much like Kirleys, just try and avoid any foreground detail and loads of overlap on the photos. I spotted a place on the corner of Hawkins street and the quays today that does print any size, vinyl, banners, & photos, which might help the Dublin based guys. Richie.
  16. Dave, is this the famous CIE version you were looking for, or is that another one. New Irish Lines Vol 3 No 6 2004 November for more info on the Sundries Van.
  17. All I can find is that there were two siding on the Up side, and a significant rail freight yard, until it was gobbled up by the McDonagh Shopping monstrosity. But I got some photos... Richie. and a few in here also. http://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/sets/72157632184426844/with/8249805482/

I actually think the one Seamus Graham resprayed for Heirflick was a cracking livery, somewhere between freight and passenger livery. Maybe shem might repost it.
  19. Yip, thems the ones all right. You could respray and re-decal them in IE, even go further to extend them like kirley has done, for a minimum cost and labour. R.
  20. Class! Have they telephone boxes in australia now...?
  21. Gentlemen - Aldi are selling A3 sized cutting mats for €4.99. They're decent quality so I got two. They are also doing a deal on a 56 piece hobby knife set, assorted files, G clamps, large toolboxes, and assorted measuring tools and carpenters squares. Enough to stock your workbench for around 40 euros.

  23. The way i did the glass was using cd covers. When cut to the right size and put in, i coated the whole of the rear of the window with satin acyrilic varnish, which acts as a glue for the glazing, and tones down the visibilty through to the inner workings. HTH. Richie
  24. fran, there was this an article in model railroader where a chap had hoodwinked his dcc setup and hooked it up with a marantz amp and a bazillion speakers, all driven by his custom written piece of software so that as the loco travelled down the line, the sound followed on speaker. It was on a dvd that came with mag, so i'm not sure if its on youtube, but this guy had a subwoofer that would make armin van buuren blush. Now "that" is how to get them sd40's sounding mad in model form! Really impressive...must look it up again.
  25. yeah, some stunning photos, thanks for sharing.
