  1. What is the only station in Ireland with an O' in its name?
  2. Magilligan Railway Station in Derry, with a horse drawn tram to Magilligan Point? R
  3. Wonderfully inspiring stuff.
  4. JHB, The dark green on the outside is the early 1940's etc, as seen on the quiet man? Is the inner applegreen (think green with a good dollop of yellow) on the headhunters sign above that shown in the photo below? Thirdly, there is mention of OVS Bullied bringing in a shade of Malachite Green (green with a spoon of blue) almost identical to the Southern Railway green in Broad Gauge Carriages in Ireland. Is that still present somewhere? Lastly, which green is this? It doesn't appear to be any of the two at the top? Halp!!! . Richie.
  5. or a pen-knife and a little sealed baggy....
  6. Taken Feb this year down in the North Wall Yard, behind all them MKIII's. Wrenn sent me the photo so see if I could make the crane lol. Probably still there, but you'd need to be IE, or be adventurous with a stepladder to see it.
  7. Champion, many thanks.
  8. Incidentally, I spotted this on google maps, a mini crane on the back of a 42' flat. Then I got this image... Anybody got an idea what it is/was for? Lifting old semaphore signals? R
  9. Right on Brother!!! Edit - Gallery of vehicles. Click the FS button on the lower right hand size for full screen pics. http://www.sduffyplanthire.ie/gallery-2/

    New Irish Lines

Oh you bloody diamond! Incidentally Garf, i've run OCR on the previous pdfs so I can cobble together a quick access index in a txt doc, contents/index mostly, handy to find peculiar stuff in a hurry. Would it be handy for dropbox? One other thing it does is drop the file size from around 45mb to about 5mb. Thoughts? R. Edit-Oh, and possibly include a paypal link for donations to NIL. Its an excellent production and every little helps.
  11. http://www.irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/157-LIMA-Murphy-Models?p=17956&viewfull=1#post17956 Wrenneire here is the man to ask on availability. I "believe" the hornby and lima mk3's are identical. No question is too silly either, JR. The lads can help with the supertrain q's. R.
  12. Gents, Some signs to torment your plastic passengers with. This is IE only, still gathering NI ones. Many thanks to the thread contributors. These can be plastered all over buildings, or on posts in car parks. Best printed on semi-gloss photo paper. Tiny dab of pva on the back is the best way to stick them down. If anyone needs a pre-cut pack, instead of cutting it themselves, PM me. Cost €2.50. http://www.glenderg.com/drawings/Station_Signage.pdf Enjoy. Richie.
  13. I love the thought of them sanding the printed object down to get it to fit in a hurry. lol, no wet n' dry in space.
  14. Don't ask Bosko - his vids are masterpieces of transition techniques and slick editing! Make them longer and show us the pug at the very end! Any chance of an overall view of the layout, looks wonderful. I subbed too. Richie.
  15. Tom, I assume this plan links up with the other one on the first page, and if so, how do the 4 lines to the right work. Are the middle two the main lines, and the others loops/sidings/headshunts? I'm very impressed by it. I think the key to good track design is that every major route on its own looks natural. I have one suggestion though. Adding a slip at the end of the top siding and a curved point on the inner line, so that if you're running a goods train from a siding, it makes a smooth transition to the main line. Cant remember the technical term for it, something to do with opposing curves and flange squeal! R.
  16. Odd one indeed. Never noticed it until now.
  17. As jhb says, swap out the chimney and dome, and i think you have an irish prototype without too much effort.
  18. Limerick - nenagh, castlemungret, foynes, ennis, lmk jct, and cork via charleville? Dats 6 kid....

    Gaa

Tough gig indeed. Thought the cork lads would have done their homework, but a cracker of a match nonetheless. Having to listen to Davy "dere was a lot of tings dat went on dere out on de pitch i wasnt happy wid, bud i'm not sayin anthin" Fitzgerald for the next 12 months is going to be hard to stomach. Luimneach Abu. R.
  20. I had the same conundrum years ago, and had a flick through the "other" version expecting a massive difference. Turns out the same mistakes are present - wrong photo/caption combo. One of the most cutting and brilliant books i've ever read. The section on carriage heating from steam to diesel transition is Elmore Leonard-esqe. Buy 2. You'll wear one out. R.
  21. Nelson, Welcome aboard. Those lining pen skills are outstanding. Care to share your equipment and techniques? The layout is superb, and any lad that age with both the skill and interest in NCC/UTA/BCDR/GNRI etc is to be commended. Colmflanagan Mk II perhaps.... Richie
  22. Tom, that girder bridge has a "riversuir" look about it - a squirt of bauxite red and heavy weathering, and she'd look the bizness. As for the other, there is more of a corkonian vibe about it. Both look great though.
  23. Eoin, with respect, I think you might be off target a wee bit. the Planning and Development Act 2000 doesn't set out what you can and cannot build in detail. It sets out development standards. It also sets out the connection with the building regulation act, building control act, and subsequent regulations. To most normal people navigating this minefield, its best to give them the easiest route to an answer, which is going to the local county council planning counter and have a chat with the guy behind it. Especially if its a man/train shed! edit - I'm a qualified architect.
  24. lads, no matter a house extension, a man shed, or a portacabin, they all need some of compliance with the Building Regulations & Planning & Dev Law. No structure is considered temporary, so you can't hoodwink them with a second storey. Single storey extensions, leaving a minumum of 25m2 clear garden area is general rule of approval. There is still a limit to the size of the extension you can build, and a quick chat at the planning counter in your local co-co will tell you what's acceptable. R.
