  1. Hi, Just wondering and not sure if its been mentioned already, to avoid the discrepancy with scenery on various modules how about if each module or a couple of modules were built as a diaroma so when set up would not look out of place with other modules. Regards, John
  2. Hi all, I will be at the Ulster MRC show in Belfast on 26th and 27th August with Campbell Riverside. Look forward to seeing you. https://www.facebook.com/Ulster-Model-Railway-Club-527971310550421/ Regards John
  3. Mounting couplings to the body is dependant on the curvature of your layout. I have body mounted Kadee's on some MK 3 coaches which negotiate a 30" radius curve, any tighter then you would get buffer lock (unless using HST MK 3's) MK1 & MK2 stock you could get away with slightly smaller radius, however some stock would foul on the buffers at 24". Not sure how the MM Cravens would work, but some modellers (I have a rake of Bachmann MK1's that I fitted with the Hornby (Roco) close couplings and these seem to work fine, I have run these on 2nd radius curves. May be worth a try with the cravens.
  4. Thanks for that Noel, Regards, John
  5. Does anyone know anywhere in Ireland that sells/stocks the Carr's flux and 145 degree low melt solder. I think there may be problems posting flux from UK (post restrictions on liquids) I normally use the Carrs green flux. Regards John

  12. Had a very enjoyable weekend with my Campbell Riverside layout, was nice to be next to Bushville layout too. Also a great opportunity to meet up with fellow modellers. Looking forward to next years show. Regards John
  13. Hi robbie58, Thanks, look forward to meeting you. I have made a few minor improvements and alterations since 2015, especially on the back scene and the introduction of the auto-shuttle on the high-level track.
  14. Campbell Riverside will be on show at the annual Easter Exhibition to be hosted by Wexford Model Railway Club at St Joseph's Community Centre, Wexford, Republic of Ireland on Sunday 16th and Bank Holiday Monday 17th April 2017. Regards John
  15. I generally use Humbrol enamel matt rust No 113 or Revel equivalent for sides of the rails, slightly thinned with thinners or white spirit, On point work try to avoid painting the area where the switch blade makes contact with the stock rail. I paint my track by hand with a brush, but you can always use an airbrush too. Hope this helps. John
  16. Re Peco track, There has been an ongoing debate over the years of which track is scale appearance or not. Strictly speaking Peco track is HO scale ie, 3.5mm to 1' whereas 00 UK and Irish stock is produced to 4mm - 1'. So for complete authenticity in 00 scale the track gauge should be I believe 21mm. However most modellers are quite happy to accept the compromise of using 'HO' track which when detailed and weathered, as you have done by starting to paint the sides of the rails does not look too much out of place. Regards John
  17. I currently use cassettes on my Campbell Riverside layout, http://irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/1836-Campbell-Riverside I used 6mm MDF for the base and 3mm MDF for the sides with code 100 track. The advantage of cassettes is you can make then any length to suit, 4' would be ideal maximum. Regards John
  18. Still available. Price reduced £400.00/ €480.00
  19. Hi Tony, Painting by hand is fine, on my Campbell Riverside layout I used Humbrol rust enamel whish I diluted a bit with white spirit. The main thing to be aware of is to take care around the points especially where the switch blades make contact with he rails. As others have said, make sure you are happy with all the electrics first before any ballasting or scenic work. Regards, John
  20. Hi all, Here are my first two examples of weathered 40' box cars for Campbell Riverside. This is my first attempt at weathering rolling stock, I will do a few more wagons before I attempt some loco's Regards, John
  21. Great work, The footbridge at Llangollen has always fascinated me. Quite often stop of there when I visit the UK. Looking forward to seeing your layouts at Wexford. I will be there with my Campbell Riverside layout. Regards John
  22. Campbell Riverside has been exhibited on the exhibition circuit since 2014 and is continuing to prove popular for all who see it. Since my first exhibition in 2014, the layout has continued to be improved, with the introduction of the 'auto-shuttle' on the high level track and gradually improving the back scene. I have now made a start on weathering the rolling stock, this will be followed by weathering of some of the locos as well. One improvement that I would like to make before the next exhibition is to make a lighting pelmet possibly using LED strips.
  23. Had a great 3 days at the show. My 'Campbell Riverside' layout performed well over the 3 days and had opportunity to catch up with friends and fellow modellers, old and new.
