How long would you normally wait for delivery after customs/VAT paid. Last item I had was delivered next day but seems like Anpost have gone on a go slow again. No update on tracking since yesterday morning. Paid yesterday morning and got email receipt and conformation and stated they would now 'deliver' my parcel. 04 July 2024 11:29 Customs charges have been paid. Think thats what i may do in future, have a Rails order on way there. How quickly do they notify you once they recive your parcels?

Just tried a 'virtual' order from TMC for a pre-owned item, it looks like they deduct VAT. Only niggle that I have when ordering from TMC is that for overseas, you have to request a postage quote which usually they send you via email the next day. Also you have to ask them for the tacking information after item has been shipped, apparently Royal Mail are supposed to do that but for some reason the system does not work, this is the email i had in response to my recent order. (just paid Anpost the VAT this morning, so hopefully delivered tomorrow). Hi John The tracking is an ongoing issue with Royal Mail. We have chatted to our account manager about this but no resolve as yet. When they scan your parcel into their van from their collection at our place each afternoon you are supposed to be sent a tracking reference. I can only apologise that you are not getting this. We do eventually get a copy of the reference number which is below but for us to send it out to customers would be a manual job every time and we just don’t have the time to do that. We hope Royal Mail sort their automated tracking reference issue out soon Hope that helps Thanks and speak soon Andy

Have only had new for TMC so far. So not sure on the pre-owned.

Thats handy to know, Rails dont deduct VAT on pre-ownened. Currently have a Rails order on way to the North. TMC also deduct VAT.

For anyone interested in repainting, I currently have this listed,

That is one on the issues with a lot of the 'older' Hornby and ex Lima models. A couple of small improvements, such as , NEM pockets would be better, from reports I have seen its the same issue with the class 101 and 110 DMU's. Shame really as despite being older tooling, they still don't look too bad.

Easy enough to hard wire a DCC decoder in or an 8-pin socket.

Thanks for that Denis, That's a very kind offer.

Just registered for the border parcel motel. Free and easy.

Is it €3.00 for any parcel? Made enquires last time I passed on way to Enniskillen but did not get any clear answers. Will re-investigate next time I down that way.

Just phoned Peco and replacement July copy being sent out. Lady I spoke to told me exactly the same thing.

Don't really know what the problem is, but until the April issue most copies have been delivered within two weeks of publication date.

Are you going to attempt a class 13 in 0 gauge Dave?
-
Bit more progress on the class 13 project. Glazing fitted on cab windows, (absent on the Lima models), and now applying transfers. I am using modellers licence/ rule 1 for the numbering as the Lima donors would not be an exact match for the origional 13001 -13003. So a bit of fictional back story. After the sucess of the three class 13's at Tinsley, BR wanted another 7 to make 10 units in total. As the yards they were destined for were not as steeply graded as Tinsley, some of the origional modifications carried out on the Tinsley three were not required such as the modified buffer beams. I have gone for 13007.

I think it seems to vary from courier and area (seems to be same in UK looking at Rmweb). I find our DPD delivery driver good and friendly, and the only courier that gives you a time slot, and my experience has always been within the time frame. DHL have been the worst for me. One time was waiting for a delivery, then early evening got text saying unable to deliver no one in, the lying XXXXXX. Another occasion, was the DHL delivery driver walked round side of house and left parcel in log shelter, not even tap/knock on the door.

Be careful when buying pre-owned from Rails of Sheffield, VAT is not deducted so will cost you more if you buy the items. Shame as there are some items I would be interested in.

Did you count the rivets lol..

Not sure, dont think there are many now, I read somewhere about three years ago that there were less than 100 in use now.

Thought I would show my latest project here. Thanks to @Gabhal Luimnigh, I have two old Lima 08/09 shunters. One working and one non runner. I have always been interested in making one of the class 13 Tinsley hump shunters and this provided me with the opportunity for this project. There are a few detail errors with the Lima model, but I did not want to start cuting up a Bachmann or Hornby version. I also have a Lima 08 in Silverlink livery which got from Hatton's last year as a non runner, (motor mounting bracket was broken), so I took the bracket from the blue 09 non runner and 08874 was back in working order. Next it was a case of carefully cuting the cab off one of the donor bodies, then using bits of plasticard trying to replicate the 'calf' unit. Extra pick ups have been added and both main unit and calf are connected electrially. Additional weight has been added. Its still a work in progress at this stage, needing numbers and buffers.
