  1. Depends on model, cost and who's producing it.
  2. Another chance to see this programme all this week on BBC2 NI at 16.50 Mon to Fri.
  3. What about the GAA clubs, always looking for a few bob, plenty of parking, a big hall/gym and a bar for refreshments!
  4. The ITG are running a bus from Dublin to Downpatrick on the day, details below, need to book in advance. The ITG are operating a special connecting coach from Dublin to Downpatrick and back to connect with the event. Pick up/set down times are as follows: Red Cow Luas Stop (08:30pu/19:40sd) - Dublin Heuston (St John's Road side, 09:00pu/19:20sd) - Dublin Airport Coach Park (09:30pu/18:50sd) - Downpatrick (11:30arr/16:50dep). The fare for this coach connection (which also includes unlimited travel at the Downpatrick & Co. Down Railway) is £ 17.00 or € 20.00. Places on the connecting coach MUST be reserved in advance, stating your full name, number of passengers, and intended boarding point. A contact mobile telephone number should also be provided. Payment will be collected on the day. Bookings should be made to the ITG at the following e-mail address: info@irishtractiongroup.com Walter.
  5. Brings me back to the last days of VanHool McArdle in Spa Road, a good employer which the ex CIE staff only discovered when they got their wish and their jobs back in CIE after the closure in 1979. The rest of us lost out to Dessie O'Malley and the fiddle in the piano factory in Limerick. One point though, I don't think that tan livery was still in use by the time TKmax or Blanchardstown SC opened.
  6. Kernow modelrail centre, Marks Models, RB Models and The Modelshop all have some of what your looking for, links below. http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/ http://www.marksmodels.com/?cid=51 http://rbmodels.ie/product-category/trains/locomotives/murphymodels/#quickview/3/ http://www.themodelshop.ie/model-railways/irish-railways/irish-locomotives.html?limit=all
  7. A nice looking wagon, but I don't know anybody who could justify spending €100 + on one small wagon
  8. End of The Line for Ghost Trains as 31 Stations under 'Full Review' According to the Sunday Indo 31 stations out of a total of 147 face closure due to lack of passengers using them. The info came from The National Transport Agency, National Rail Census. Attymon with 2 passengers a day, Cloughjordan with 5 boarding + 4 arriving, Roscrea with 15 boarding + 1 arriving, Nenagh with 18 boarding + 2 arriving it looks like a clear out of parts of Rural Ireland. Even in the Capitol the relatively new Adamstown only has 85 boarding and 107 arriving and Clondalkin has 37 boarding + 46 arriving. Even The Westeren Rail Corridor only caters for 1000 passengers a day and as for Limerick to Ballybrophy only 73 passengers a day. So it looks like there'll be a repeat of the rail closures of the 1950's and 1960's with more tracks lifted.
  9. Would the double stack have left Heuston Depot as a 3 stack and been reduced to a double stack before it reached Inchicore by the Guinness bandits!
  10. It looks like it could be one of the last trains to Ballybrophy according to an article in the Sunday Indo on 17 Aug '14. A link to said article. http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/news/end-of-line-for-ghost-trains-as-31-stations-under-full-review-30513603.html Walter.
  11. Hi Richie, I'd be interested in a Kit, well done. Walter.
  12. A history of how the railways contributed to the war effort leading up to and during the war. All this week on BBC2, 18.30 tonight, presented by Michael Portillo.
  13. I think it would be better for CIE or the Rail Procurement agency to have a Transport Police with similar powers to the Gardaí, to police all the public transport services in The Republic. It would be far better than the private security firms which are employed on the Dart late night services and on some of the Galway services at present as a lot of the personnel just look like East European heavies, from the ones I encountered on a Dublin/Galway service with a hens party on board a few years ago, and wouldn't have a great understanding of Irish Law.
  14. Would be nice to get a UTA perspective on the story.
  15. Hi flange lubricator, when I worked in The Carriage and Wagon Dept. at Heuston in the early 80's the TL with the coach number on the Cravens was understood to mean Train Lighting. Also the coach sets when they were overhauled in Heuston in the 80's were always marked with the date and initials KB, on the underframes to signify Kingsbridge was the depot. Walter.
  16. I hear that the Galway train is stopped in Portarlington as Gardaí called to sort out an incident abord the train.
  17. Whereas the 23.10 Dart was re-railed, Garth Brooks has been shunted off somewhere:banana:
  18. Eoin, the correct dimensions for the electrical conduit is 20mm and is readily available. The smaller size conduit, 10mm and 15mm, is not readily available and maybe more expensive. Here's a link to conduit sizes http://www.cooperindustries.com/content/dam/public/bline/Resources/Library/catalogs/bolted_framing/strut_systems/rd-rigidsteelconduitimc.pdf Walter.
  19. If somebody here on the site is good at matching colour shades, here is a link which gives all the paint manufacturers codes by colour. http://scalemodeldb.com/paint As it rurns out green is the first colour.
  20. The same source said that the A class was being considered by Mr Murphy as a follow on project.
  21. I don't know how credible Marks Models is but that's who mentioned it to me.
  22. I heard yesterday that the 121's have gone to production and should be available hopefully for the Christmas market in 2015.
  23. Hi Enniscorthyman, nice work there. What are the dimensions of the cement bubble? as they aren't legible on the drawings that I downloaded from this site. I have a woodturning friend who has offered to make some if I can provide him with the dimensions. Thanking you in advance, Walter.
  24. Richie, Been following this thread with interest and it would be a shame to lose your input. A lot of prospective modellers haven't the ECB, European investment Bank or World Bank to fund their efforts. Your ideas and knowledge can help to make the hobby affordable to many people who have an interest but not the funds to create a layout with rolling stock etc. from the RTR or ready to plant market. Keep up the good work and never mind the begrudger’s. Walter.
