Jim, they don't do things like they used to in my day lol By the way, Belfast Central Railway was not without its problems such as the gas main sub project that 'discovered' a live culvert resulting in the railway becoming a river in the Botanic cutting, nor the vandalism of the signalling cables on the first day of operation of trains from the Great Northern line, but these problems were overcome.

A similar thing occurred when a Guinness train was derailed at Gorawood during the Troubles. By the time the railway staff were allowed in to recover the train all the barrels had disappeared.

Hattons still exists. It has been declared solvent. It is in the process of voluntary winding up so if you want to make a claim I suggest doing it quickly.

I agree with you Minister. Mayner appears to demonstrate your point. I have read Mayner's post and am aware that some children have problems. Still not an excuse for (a) causing vandalism or (b) being allowed to get away with it.

Fancy a detailed study of Google Maps? lol

When the turf ran out were the coaches used for firewood?

Now which thread should this be in? How about "When the real thing looks like an UN realistic model, ....prototype for everything "?

Along the Westlink in Belfast was considered as an option for the cross town rail link with a through station not far from where Grand Central Station is now. -
Very nice Jim. Now I'm really looking forward to seeing mine on the layout.

Price originally advertised by Hattons was £120 and £33 for four pack and single coach respectively. Prices on my invoice with UK VAT removed are £108.29 and £29.13 and these prices equate to £129.95 and £35.95 with 20% VAT. E mail from Rails explains slight price increase: [quote]Due to the time elapsed since the announcement of the coaches, along with additional production costs and increased shipping charges, a slight increase in prices has become necessary. We have endeavoured to keep any price increases to a minimum. If you wish to cancel your order, we are happy to accommodate this request. Please be aware that any future stock that becomes available for sale will be priced higher than the current pre-order price offered to you.[quote] Postage to Ireland is not free. The £0.00 charge appears because I had not yet, at the time of the screenshot selected my shipping option.

A meeting point every Saturday morning for railway modellers. I think the name of the postmaster was Cecil Robinson. Please correct me if I have the name wrong.

My recent Rails' orders did have UK VAT deducted, and I paid Irish VAT to An Post

Irish Railway News ‘Enterprise Watch’

Just a though, but if DDs can't go to GC yet, could NIR and IR enter into some arrangement whereby the Enterprise is temporarily operated entirely by ICR sets with the DDs working to Galway or Sligo. If it's possible that would avoid the Enterprise returning to Lanyon Place and would enable GC rail operations to get started until the problem is sorted. -
What will that involve? If the track is on top of it could that mean lifting the track, redoing the apron and track relaying and commissioning? OR Enterprise returns to Lanyon Place. Either way, lots of egg on faces

Anything to do with tbe Blackstaff culvert?
-
I have no problem with Health and Safety involvement to make sure everything is OK. That has always been the way with new railways. Not sure what the Assembly has to do with it, if anything.

I can't believe they add 'train station to the names of the stations. How is Dundalk only a 'Halt'? -
Not really strange from Dapol's viewpoint. Simple livery variation of an existing model and 'Hey Presto' an RTR Irish steam loco to modern standards ready to sell to all those Irish Modellers. It seems to have worked. So good they did it twice; in O and in OO

J C Pattersons and Fletcher's cycle shop, both in Lisburn sold Hornby Dublo and Meccano. I recall selling my Lego c 1972 and spending the five pounds realised buying a Duchess of Montrose set (BR maroon coaches) when J C Pattersons was stopping selling model trains. Their Meccano wassold off via Ulster Model Railway Club- Thank you Charlie Hamilton for organising that. I also remember window shopping as a young boy at Fairfield's ( I think that was the name), in the main street in Lurgan. I saved up for and purchased Triang clerestory coaches there. I recall they also had Hornby Dublo Suburban coaches, and my Dad bought me three of them.

Now that Peco are aware of problems with the delivery company, it will be Peco's fault if they continue to use them without getting things sorted.

Thanks Jonathan, it's difficult to find a picture of both ends of a train! I'll keep looking.
