  1. If Mr Bert had arrived a few days earlier I might have been in a spot of bother...
  2. Further to the above. To cope with the above I think that manufacturers will need to offer a wind up clock work facility as well as DCC ready and DCC fitted on their locos....
  3. The lectricerty was off from 6.15am until 8.20pm this evening due to Storm Bert. Seems Mr Bert will be back in action tomorrow so candles and wind up lamps still on standby.
  4. HO figure set Dominatrix and customer | HO gauge (modellbahnunion.com) Trying to figure a way of including this on the layout...
  5. Had another class 66 (66109 PD Ports) repaired out of warranty free of charge. New motor fitted. The customer service is very good as I have said before. I have a few of these class 66 locos and most run fine. These two didn't but Hornby came good in both cases.
  6. This will of course have a negative effect on the BER rating for your house! Someone not far from us is building a new house. Built to current specs. Because he has chosen to have windows that can be opened he was told he will get a lower BER rating than if he installed non opening windows. I presume the powers that be that come up with these regulations do not realise that if you have a door fitted this will be opened and closed numerous times daily. Me, I like fresh air! Regarding the catflap. If you installed another opening on a panel a couple of feet away from the first one, it would close before the second flap was opened by the cat. Might keep the BER man happy.
  7. The hydraulic system as outlined above was supposed to give weight saving when used in the diesel hydraulic locos compared to traditional diesel electric types. Does the 22000 class benefit in this regard? Wonder what the weight difference would be if the 22000 were straight forward diesel electrics? Also does this make the 22000's easier on the track?
  8. You will need to try harder

    Customs & VAT

I have used them in the past when they had something I wanted. Being EU based the stuff comes straight through. Incidentally, todays package with An Post came with a knock to the door.

    Customs & VAT

Mine arived today. Paid charge last Friday. Funnily enough I checked the tracking number this morning and this is what it said " 06 September 2024 15:04 Customs charges have been paid. Your item will be processed and delivered as soon as possible" Still says that.

    Customs & VAT

I have just got a notification from An Post for customs charges to be paid. The administration fee from An Post is €3.50. It's from Rails of Sheffield. I will let you know when it arrives.
  12. I had to Goggle "heat haze". Bit of a rarity up here. Similar effects to a "Jameson" haze by the looks of it....
  13. Broithe wrote June 27, 2019. "Views of the tracks through the heat haze." If you squint you can just about see Omar Shariff loping towards you on his camel.
  14. A bloke bought a packet of luminous condoms. That night his neighbour turned to his wife and said "That bloke next door keeps opening and closing the fridge door."
  15. I had an issue with a Hornby class 66 diesel, 66005. It stopped working and was shorting out the transformer (red light coming on). It was out of warranty and I had bought it from Hattons who are no longer trading. I contacted Hornby who told me to send it over to them. I got it back repaired free of charge. Turned out to be a faulty capacitor. Their customer service is very good.
  16. NEW ZEALAND: Stadler has shipped the first two of the Class DM main line diesel locomotives that its Valencia factory in Spain is building for KiwiRai/. Look at the different track gauges beneath the loco.
  17. This outfit has been working here for over 20 years and I don't see much to show for it. It must be a new children's hospital.....
  18. All-island rail review sets out 37 billion-euro plan to improve services (msn.com) The salient parts. – Build a new direct line between Lisburn and Newry. – Restore a line between Athenry in Co Galway and Claremorris in Co Mayo, connecting Tuam in Co Galway to the network. – Reinstate the South Wexford railway. – Develop a new rail link from Letterkenny in Co Donegal to Derry. – Build a rail link that would cross central Dublin – potentially via a tunnel – to connect Heuston station, which receives trains from the south of the island, with the northern line that serves Connolly station.
  19. Came across this and it must have been taken during a hot summer when water was being rationed.
  20. By the time someone climbs up the pole with cease and desist order, the offending avian will have moved to another pole. The law being what it is, it would require a new order specific to the new location. Your thrushes probably sing with a different accent to our thrushes.
  21. So long as they do not start carrying the anvil and dropping it on the snails..
  22. I would hazard a guess that you do not see many slugs....
  23. Did you ever try to tame one yet, as in the "Taming of the Shrew".?
  24. We have pygmy shrews living around. Only time you see them is when they die!
