The IRM modular approach reaping the benefits, take tank barrels from weed spray set and stick them on the Bulleid chassis for a whole new model! There is some lovely footage of an E shunting these on Horgans quay in cork that was shown in an IRRS slideshow a few years back

Spoke to Paddy today, current reckoning is Q4 2024 best case but more likely they will be ready in the run up to CNY 2025.. forgot to ask about liveries!

Got these pics of a tank from Cork container terminal(they were taken by the Cranes while offloading the vessel) Thought it is a good example of how a container should look when weathered by nearly 20 years on the high seas and being lifted onto and off vessels, trucks and trains.. The frame is heavily worn, has very little paint left on it and plenty of streaky rust, the outer shell is patched various time and the walkways are far from square. Dapol take note!

Don’t see the saving though as you gave to pay postage also, and if you buy 1 you probably won’t get the box.. And if you wanted to move them on down the line they’ll be an incomplete set so worth less.. if they were €45-50 a coach maybe it would make sense.. Same chap also wanted €320 plus post for NIR blue 209 with a damaged front skirt

Always the optimist but I can’t see new 071s in 2024 to be honest.. And if we do see them they definitely won’t be €200 considering the new 141s are more than that

@DJ Dangeroushas one that @murphaph resprayed for him, from the pics I saw it was impossible to tell if was a factory original or not, in fact @murphaphs one was probably better as it has subtle weathering instead of being OOB Mad where they’ve got to.. I spoke to Paddy a few months back on it and he said he just didn’t see the demand for NIR models so went with a half batch of 252 instead of the usual 504.. This is the result of them at I guess!

Well THAT escalated quickly, was €150 plus P&P yesterday and still has 6 days to run.. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/186285329975?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=5282-175127-2357-0&ssspo=tAHV0Z9ASqi&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=tAHV0Z9ASqi&var&widget_ver=artemis&media=FB&fbclid=IwAR29TgNMh9XzoZNKe-Jk_ZXF87jHYG7tn3ZLx-rWojLT6yy5CsJeVycvXOw

Limerick to Foynes railway reopening plan
MOGUL replied to spudfan's topic in What's happening on the network?
While what you say might make sense from a rail freight within Ireland point of view, it makes zero sense to a freight forwarder like me, where the rail journey is just a small part of the overall shipments transport.. Foynes is in the wrong place for services from Europe and has no large traffic generator near by to provide a base load to a container service.. It might work for some bulk traffic, but so could any port on the island, and if you are going to land in Foynes and forward by rail then there is probably a port nearby than is more convenient -

Sounds like something that was heard from a driver in Heuston… This idea that there is some over arching plan to move services to Foynes( the same pops up with Shannon) is nonsense.. Ports(or airports) and governments have very little say in what services they get, as the services are operated by privately owned companies that go where the demand is.. Hence the Dublin centric nature of our shipping and airline routes -

I was slightly pessimistic as I overlooked the grain/animal feed to Gain Feeds Portlaoise which previous ran from Foynes, Waterford(RH hall now demolished) and Dublin(doesn't want rail freight or Bulk traffic in the basin very much).. However again this is not a dead cert for rail traffic.. I have said it a hundred times, doubling Portarlington to Athlone would be the best spend of money on rail in this country, benefitting Passenger services to Westport and Galway as well as all currently operating freight services.. It should happen before WRC, Navan or even East Cork, but it just doesn't have the flash to it to get some local politician to put him back into it! With the extra Westport and Galway services(plus more container trains in the pipeline), that piece of track about to get even more congested! -
Ah yeah but everything in the door so far this week was in January, now it’s a whole new month and nothing has arrived yet… Murphy models, sure that was last month

Industrial sites in Ireland with their own locomotives
MOGUL replied to jhb171achill's topic in General Chat
While technically narrow gauge, Irish Steel haulbowline probably warrants a mention, maybe under some special category heading like commendable effort or also ran -
Hit send/receive and check your junk folder! not stuck in my outbox anyway

It isn’t the end of January yet so it’s possible you’ll get your paws on them this month..

Limerick to Foynes railway reopening plan

The Pallas green mine seems to be the main one mentioned, but the mine itself seems to have made little progress towards actually happening, just some surveying etc.. One flow that seems to be confirmed if the delivery of rail to Portlaoise, which currently arrives via Waterford.. but this is just re-directing an existing flow rather than being a new to rail flow.. Containers, Foynes is in the wrong place and Ringaskiddy seems to have captured the deep sea market, having weekly calls from the US(ICL lines) and South America(Maersk line banana boat).. Other options were/are, exports of Baby food from Wyeth in Askeaton which is now closing and the movement of contamined soil from Roche(pronounce ROSH!) in Clarecastle which is currently being shipped from Foynes in 20ft containers on chartered vessels, however this project will likely be finished or nearly over by the time the Limerick/Foynes line is ready -
