  1. Love the subtle weathering, and the Tinnelly truck is particularly nice

    Containers

I have a whole curver box full of containers and tanks and normally pick up five or six more C-rails at the Raheny/Blackrock show! Although it's only a small box, and not all the containers I have now fit in it! I only buy the Dapol ones because they are a bit cheaper, and give variety, so I have 7 different CMAs instead of 7 Crails.. It's a quicker option than buying Arrans and Renumbering! But when you put them side by side, Arrans are head and shoulders above anyone elses, so they are normally the top front box on my stacks! I think only Dapol do a weathered version, so they are the ones with the fuzzy printing I posted pictures of.. Each to their own, but I avoid the weathered versions from Dapol, I think the weathering is more like what you would see on rolling stock(track dirt).. Containers weather differently to rolling stock or trucks, as they are steel exposed to sea water regularly, rust is the main feature of weathering on a container, and also little diamond of black crud where haz labels were/have been removed.. @murphaph recent work is a good example of old/worn containers, but if a driver showed up in Ballina with one of those he'd be told where to go!

    Containers

A whole crop of Dapol and Hornby containers released this month, some very much of Irish interest Dapol First: 20ft Evergreens, unweathered and weathered versions available.. Cover a wide period from the 90s onwards, and were very prominent on the Claremorris liner with Bone chip exports from Dawn meats in Ballyhaunis, as well as lots of other liner operations up to the present day IWT https://www.dapol.co.uk/shop/oo-gauge/wagons-OO-Gauge/oo-gauge-containers/4F-028-055-OO-Gauge-Container-20FT-EISU-75951-5-01151-3 https://www.dapol.co.uk/shop/oo-gauge/wagons-OO-Gauge/oo-gauge-containers/4F-028-056-OO-Gauge-Container-20FT-EISU-75951-5-01151-3-Weathered 40ft mixed pack with 1 Hapag Lloyd and 1 CMA.. Very relevant to IWT liners! Again come in weathered and un-weathered versions.. I got a set in a hattons order(with a nice Mulgrew truck needing light repairs) and they are passable.. Not up to Arrans standards, but a good volume filler as you can never have enough 40ft CMAs(think I have about 8, a mix of dapols and Crail by now) https://www.dapol.co.uk/shop/oo-gauge/wagons-OO-Gauge/oo-gauge-containers/4F-028-056-OO-Gauge-Container-20FT-EISU-75951-5-01151-3-Weathered https://www.dapol.co.uk/shop/oo-gauge/wagons-OO-Gauge/oo-gauge-containers/4F-028-107-OO-Gauge-40ft-Ctnr-HC-HAPAG-LLOYD-213247-0-CMA-CGM 522616-6-Weathered 45ft Mixed pack of P&O and Samskip, JACKPOT! Both of these are regulars on the IWT liner, and the Samskip ones sometimes make up 80% of the load on the XPOs(that's 3 boxes!).. Can't find them on Dapol website but Hattons seem to have some.. https://www.hattons.co.uk/976915/dapol_4f_028_023_45_ft_container_p_o_ferrymasters_007303_8_samskip_798868_0/stockdetail https://www.hattons.co.uk/976916/dapol_4f_028_024_45_ft_container_p_o_ferrymasters_007303_8_samskip_798868_0_wthd/stockdetail Hornby have 3 packs 1 of tanktainers x 3, nice models.. Only the Concisa has seen the rails here(IWT liner 2015-2019ish), but the other two are generic enough/hire units that could fit in.. They are a little dear though, going to pass on these and pick up some C-Rails in Raheny instead! https://uk.hornby.com/products/concisa-tip-hoyer-container-pack-3-x-20-tanktainers-era-11-r60130 1 pack with a 40ft hanjin and a 20ft DAL, Hanjin went bust around 2018 but their containers did appear on liners here(baby food liner from Askeaton notably).. DAL are a niche african carrier, so unlikely much Irish interest in this one.. Again going to pass as I have a Hanjin from Dapol, and they are dear for Hornbys standards at £21 a pack https://uk.hornby.com/products/dal-hanjin-container-pack-1-x-20-and-1-x-40-containers-era-11-r60128 Another pack with a Genstar 40ft and a CCL 20ft, both more suitable for early 1990s-2000s.. I think Arran has done Genstar, and I know nothing about CCL! Another pass unfortunately! https://uk.hornby.com/products/ccl-genstar-container-pack-1-x-20-and-1-x-40-containers-era-11-r60127
  4. Watching this one closely, so far, not even close but people are in for a real treat this year!
  5. To be fair to our 071s, the Retales have an extra 4 cylinders, they have a 16Cyl instead of the 12 in the 071s.. Also, although our liners are short, they tend to be heavy as they move a lot of liquid in tanks.. More conventional container traffic like above, even though a longer train would likely weight less..
  6. Barline Transport was founded in May 1998 by Barry and Pauline Maybin and operated from Larne, Co. Antrim in Northern Ireland. Although the company has now ceased trading, at its peak, the distinctive blue and white liveried fleet comprised 30 tractor units and around 75 trailer, including the Volvo FH Curtainside. The company offered a wide range of transport solutions to a customer base within Ireland and across the UK. Both the truck and box are in excellent condition.. Available for collection/meet up in D7/D15 area, or can arrange postage at P&P €35
  7. Yeah, the whole NFT takes it to a whole new level.. No to bomb the thread with youtube links, but this is the best/funniest take on it I've seen..
  8. It's not just video games or railway models, people are buying and selling Pokemon cards, designer clothes and even sports shoes, basically buying them with the intent of flipping them for a profit.. Probably the most notable one in recent years was the PS5, where you had parents desperate to get one for Christmas presents while scalpers tried to sell them for 3x what they paid for them! I'm not sure where the trend has come from, but social media has definitely fuelled the trend and I think some of it generational with Gen Xers preferring to be seen as "Entrepeneur" for doing this shit rather than just putting the head down and doing actual work.. As Stephen said, manufacturers can squeeze out the scalpers by producing more stock/new releases, but some brands are fully aware of what is going on an actively promote it by issuing limited editions on a monthly basis.. Want to know how crazy the world is, watch this, anyone for a packet of Oreos for $91K! https://www.forbes.com/sites/melissakravitz/2020/02/20/supreme-oreos-are-selling-for-4000-on-ebay/
  9. There was an article about Castlerock in the IRRS journal a couple of years back that mentioned and might even had a pic of a 101 and a MV/ c class double heading a fertiliser.. Will see if I can find which journal it was
  10. Hi Dave, There is a few of the more recent issues with those trailers still available from retailers, although not sure if marks stock them.. if you Google Oxford diecast “Ronnie s Evans” or Reid’s of minishant(with a nice Scania 113) they should come up for you
  11. Unfortunately, a lot of business are unwilling to follow through on the PR about CS&R/Climate change and actually make something happen rather than window dressing.. Glanbia didn't even support the deep sea shipping service into Port of Waterford on their door step, so it inevitably ended.. They probably saved €50/container on their contract from 2021 by shipping from Dublin or Cork instead, but have obviously lost out with the price of fuel in 2022.. Only problem is the operator of the feeder vessels has been stung now and probably won't be back.. A good example in the UK of what can be done(although not perfect as it took a decade to actually happen), was Blackford for Highland spring.. Opened last month with help from the Scottish Government https://www.railfreight.com/railfreight/2022/09/07/freight-flows-for-highland-spring-water/
  12. 330K TEU is capacity, the terminal will be well under capacity for a good few years.. For reference, Cork handled 155633 containers in 2021, total was 280,000 TEU in what was a big year for shipping and likely this year will be down on that figure.. Still a lot of trucks through the tunnel that weren't there before, but not as bad as it could be!
  13. Marino point is going to be redeveloped as a JV with Gouldings fertilisers, and the plans include a rail link for distribution of fertilisers.. But whether the rail part actually happens or if it is just to secure planning remains to be seen
  14. Looks like another Seacell unit, a 40ft PWHC again(4EG1 is a 40ft pallet wide).. I know there was/is an Axis leasing(bachmann did a model of their 13.6m units), guessing this is one of their sea containers
  15. And is a perfect example of DPC's disfunctional planning the past few years.. The want to move more container ops on the southside, right beside the Glass Bottle site which is an SDZ.. Queue a bucket full of noise complaints from the residents of the nice new €600k plus appartments in D4s new quarter, as container ops are a lot noisier than Ro/Ro.. Meanwhile, they used space in Alex Basin to build a new Ro/Ro terminal for Seatruck, instead of expanding Ocean Pier Lo/Lo terminal(which is rail served, just about).. Add in the lack of land excuse(still boils my blood) while dedicating an acre to landscaping(at a cost of €1.8m) cause HQ needs a nice garden, and the old Oddlums building becoming an Art gallery, in the middle of an active port! Hope the new CEO has a clue!
  16. Irish rail might let you have one in 1:1 scale for €500! You would be doing them a favour too, free up some space for the new ICRs. We could fill it with super Quinn sausages and ship it to you
  17. The Mcgeown and Tinnelly trucks are now sold
  18. I have another truck looking for a home if anyone is interested Oxford Diecast Scania R420 and Curtainside Trailer in Tinnellys of Co.Down Livery, €35 In excellent condition and box also in good condition Available for collection in D7/D15, or can arrange postage at cost Open to offers.
  19. That was the last three off this vessel.. Will post info here when I get it, normally find out a few days before( it impacts on ops for the liner)
  20. Fixed that post for you! 079 was the loco assigned to collect the ICRs from Ocean Pier, I couldn't make it down myself this week but a friend sent me this pic of 079 with the new arrivals(7-9 of the batch of 41)
  21. Looks like another batch due in at the weekend/Monday, vessel is below if anyone wants to track it.. https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/details/ships/shipid:251966/mmsi:244790607/imo:9671462/vessel:EEMSLIFT_NELLI
  22. Just docket in Ocean Pier terminal, origin South Korea....
  23. Timing is off, 2000 would be a better time..
