  1. Hi all, Just having a troll around and came across this! interesting piece for someone. http://www.donedeal.ie/gardensheds-for-sale/railway-carriage/7742638
  2. Lovely hurling Eamonn, she's a little beaut.
  3. I was only giving a hand clearing the shed the owner would definitely not part with this 'junk' as it is of a strong sentimental value to her, her late husband was an avid railway enthusiast, he travelled widely across Ireland and Britain to photograph 'steam' and he must have collected a few model railway items over his lifetime. Unfortunately in this case, the items have been left neglected in the corner of a leaking shed
  4. Hi all, Clearing out a friend's shed today and came across these old models covered in dust and cobwebs.
  5. Hi Snapper, I will gladly take these, if still available? Regards, Tommy
  6. Excellent shots there Seamus, looks like Anto got his paws on 218!
  7. Just another bit of slow progress as I try to improve the scenics a little - added a tunnel and the roof of it has some hanging basket liner and will add more foilage over time. Thanks to David and the rest of you for the unending advice and encouragement as I try to improve things slowly on a budget. Despite my very poor modelling skills, I still love the little pw railcar, it is resting at the end of a branch, gathering the scars of time. My budget this summer stretched to a DCC SND Class 37 (couldn't resist), and B181 which I love - it's short ballast train is a hornby railroad at the moment! Thanks for taking a look. Tommy.
  8. Many thanks for the information, she certainly is a very interesting item of rolling stock and I'm delighted to hear she is still here.
  9. Hi all, Would anyone know the specs on this shunter and is it still in use on the LUAS system? Thanks in advance. Tommy. http://eiretrains.com/Photo_Gallery/Railway%20Stations%20R/Ranelagh%20and%20Rathmines/IrishRailwayStations.html
  10. Great stuff Eamonn, a fab train on a superb layout. Love the pic of 001 passing the level crossing the whole scene is just classic.
  11. Hi Bill, Love your layout, it has a real international atmosphere about it and great variety of motive power. I love the crompton, had one of those and still remember the hard saving to get it.
  12. A couple of vids of the RPSI steam trip to Wicklow at Easter time. [video=youtube_share;h5VGaocXUDQ] [video=youtube_share;lUH32-eNjXM]
  13. A few more from the RPSI Easter trip to Wicklow. Having trouble posting a vid but hope to get it sorted and will post in due course.
  14. Hi heirflick, Apologies but no video of that run. I did manage a couple of vids of the last RPSI visit to Wicklow and I will post them up.
  15. Hi all, Just a few pics of the RPSI steam railtour to Wicklow on Sunday 13th July, photographed just north of Killoughter in the Greystones - Wicklow section.
  16. Got out today for a spin and took a few pics of Rathdrum station and thought they may be of interest to some members out there. A small rural station and now automated. I don't know if the loop is used regularly in the present timetable. The impressive viaduct over the Avonmore river lies just inside the Wicklow section and below it is a field known as 'The Bottoms' where large GAA facilities existed in the late 19th and early 20th C. The games played there usually generated considerable business for the railway. To the south end of the station 'the wood siding' can be seen trailing off, now much shorter since the introduction of the CTC on this route. Beside the closed signal box is the former 'Railway Hotel,' now in a sorry state of repair. At one time there was a busy goods yard in Rathdrum Station and one of the sheds is now used by a local business. Rathdrum is an example of a quaint, rural station located in one of the most scenic sections on the network.
  17. On a trip down to Wexford at present and had a memorable visit to see Enniscorthy Man's developing layout and the amazing sounds of his wonderful A class. Thanks Eamonn. Took a trip out to Bridgetown today and snapped a pw gang operating through the L.C. with plant machinery.
  18. Lovely hurling there Eamonn, the bubbles look like they'll be spot on and your making a great fist of the inspection car, and very clever transmission system too!
  19. Thanks Eamonn, and thanks to the other contributors who made relevant responses to my questions.
  20. Yes UP, I'm aware they use a hydraulic transmission alright but it is cleverly done on those and similar diesel hydraulic units - to get power from the main engine directly into the bogies, which, must swivel etc. I know this technology is around for yonks but it's still neatly packed underfloor on those trains. When they are finally deemed life expired - I wonder will IR give any consideration to electrifying the main lines? Thanks UP.
  21. Hi all, Brought the young lads for a spin today as far as Heuston to have a look at the station and trains. What struck me was the sheer dominance of the 22k's there. A 201 arrived in from Cork, in pushing mode and apart from it, this was a desert of 22k's - not to take away from them, they are a fine looking train in their own right, clean, comfortable and efficient I'm sure. Just three questions come to mind about them; (1) How is the power from the engine transmitted to the wheels on each bogie? it is very cleverly done when you consider that they are not D.E. with no traction motors on the bogies, (2) What is the projected life expectancy of the 22k's and, (3) What type of trains will replace them? Thanks in advance all.
  22. Fantastic scenes I love the stone walls and the accommodation crossing, the hedges, grass and scrub are also very realistic.
