    New Irish Lines

The New Irish Lines website is currently being resuscitated, with content from November's issue now being added: http://www.newirishlines.org. There is also an ongoing project being undertaken to create an online archive of old issues, starting with the first issue of Irish Lines from 1992: http://www.newirishlines.org/archive-2/. Thanks to Dennis Mowatt for taking on the task of scanning these newsletters.
  4. Nice footage, Broithe... I remember seeing a documentary about the operation on the Discovery Channel some years ago.
  5. Showing how hardy some of these old aircraft are, an American expedition discovered a B-29 in Greenland back in the '90s that had sat in Arctic conditions ever since it made an emergency landing during WWII. They restored it to flying condition on-site, but unfortunately it suffered a disastrous malfunction whilst taxiing for take-off: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kee_Bird#Recovery.2Frestoration_summary
  6. Rise above it, maestro!
  7. Good man, Broithe!
  8. Meanwhile, more seriously good modelling on these layouts: [video=youtube_share;Lo1n7P0kPpo]
  9. I don't have it to hand, but there's a photo of an MV class with ballast wagons at the end of Barry Carse's book on the Irish Metro-Vicks, and he states that they're ex-SNCF stock. The older ballast wagons were ex-BR seacows. Robert, unfortunately those Mistral wagons are out of production and it doesn't look like there'll be a re-run anytime soon. I've been trying in vain to find some for an absolute age!
  10. Not offhand... saw it on the BBC lunchtime news last week.
  11. There's going to be quite a few more Spitfires in 4 or 5 years time... looks like the Burma expedition has struck gold! Geo-physical surveys are showing several airplane-shaped images in crates below the soil. Still plenty of Mustangs around... including a lot of modified airframes used for air racing (i.e. at Reno, etc.).
  12. Aye, Mayner is working on a rather good-looking 20ft flat... http://www.irishrailwaymodeller.com/showthread.php/816-4-wheel-Container-Wagon
  13. You're not the only one... these are gonna be seriously handy!
  14. Nice one!
  15. A bit of everything, really... have a few ideas in mind
  16. Haha, brilliant! Yes, back to normal now. Present from the missus arrived this week... a nice GoPro camera.
  17. I had no idea there was a Lightning simulator there... strange location for it! What were the graphics like?
  18. Personally, I'd love a spin in a BAC Lightning. There's a company in South Africa that offers flights, but it costs the guts of €10,000.
  19. That's a brilliant video, Broithe... cheers!
  20. They're the ones that were built in Inchicore
  21. Show-offs!
  22. Just watching that on my screen made me feel dizzy! I read a news story not so long ago about one of those guys falling to his death in the US.
  23. You have no idea how jealous I am of you for having that Sulzer...
  24. ...As you've never seen it before: [video=youtube_share;C6pOTKDg3sE]http://youtu.be/C6pOTKDg3sE
  25. Looking good, Kirley... always good to see someone modelling that era.
