  1. I've just had one of these oscillating saw/sanders from Lidl - http://www.lidl.co.uk/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_uk/hs.xsl/index_38690.htm - I can imagine times when it could come in handy on baseboard construction. I once had to install a coal-drop into a rectangular hole in a chipboard sheet. For thirty quid, if you need it once, then you've got your money back...
  2. We've had a bit of that around here - on the closed Stafford/Newport and Stafford/Uttoxeter lines. People extending gardens and fields, blocking and flooding the route, etc...
  3. It features at the start of Get Carter - though, in the dark and from the other end. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoa3OTJfWIY And, of course, the chap in the far corner of the compartment turns out to be the hit-man......
  4. I think it's Newcastle-upon-Tyne. They had a local electric service, hence the bits of third rail on the right. It's all a bit simpler now...
  5. You can have them rum closer together on the straight than on bends...
  6. Mmmmm..?
  7. I wonder how many he had to empty to get just the right texture on the glass - and how weathered he is himself now..?
  8. Pennies sometimes have to drop different distances...
  9. Trackwise, yes - it's 45mm track as Gauge 1, but LGB stuff is 1/22.5 scale to model a narrow-gauge scenario..
  10. This one?
  11. Another bridge strike this evening - in Amiens Street.
  12. That first picture has the look of a Victorian hand-coloured postcard..
  13. Shaken, not stirred.
  14. Do we need to put orders in now..?
  15. Will there also be a form for me to claim for travel expenses..?
  16. I don't remember that episode..
  17. I've been on a 201-hauled train that was well into three figures between Portarlington and Kildare about eight years ago, I think. I used to time the milesposts...
  18. You must be patient, Grasshopper.
  19. I don't disagree, really - but it is just a telly programme to be watched by people who would just watch something else, if that was on - sad, though that is. It's usually a mistake to watch any television programme that is about something that you actually know about yourself.
  20. I've just watched it and, to be fair to Michael Portillo*, it is really a travel programme on a railway theme, rather than specifically a railway programme - not too bad, really. *If you had told me twenty years ago that I would ever write that phrase, then I would have had you certified. It is to his credit that someone who was one of the most obnoxious people in British politics has pretty well redeemed himself over the years. Ballybrophy on Thursday - I may still find him guilty, if he doesn't do that right.
  21. Of course, Wales is only Little Britain, really.... http://ga.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Bhreatain_Bheag
  22. Ireland is the second largest of the British Isles - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Isles - the poor people of the UK are like those of the USA, they only have a word for themselves that accidentally includes those from other countries, too.
  23. Definitely faster - even for me over here..
  24. We all know that he just turned it off and turned it back on again.
