Yes but in fairness the soldering irons are muck. They have a really low quality bit that lasts a about a day!

 

Fine for wiring, not for brass!

The tips burn out very quickly on them. So they are a false economy. I got an Antex and it will outlast the Lidl one many times over.

I've used the Lidl soldering iron a good few times on the wiring of my motorbike - always done the job for me. That said, the tip is a bit knackered now.

 

I've been meaning to pickup a variable temp iron. For assembling whitemetal kits, what lower temp range should I be looking for?

Knowing me, I'd probably go down there and come back with a few bananas, a pack of dishcloths, a bag of potatoes and a tin of sardines! Ah! Forgot the solderer........!
