Eiretrains Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Reminds me of the imitated black/grey liveried 'SNCF' train which ran on Navan branch with matching loco 048. http://eiretrains.com/Photo_Gallery/Railway%20Stations%20N/Navan/IrishRailwayStations.html#Navan_20110321_004_CC_JA.jpg Quote

craven1508 Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 good stuff!! your imagination know,s no bounds!! Quote
skinner75 Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Interesting! On seeing the recent pic of 142 at Whitehead with the grey undercoat in parts,I imagined an 071 in freight grey, but with the white & tan band of the 141s original. Anyone handy at photoshop that could whip up this fictional livery to see how it'd look? Quote

Anyone handy at photoshop that could whip up this fictional livery to see how it'd look? Don't tempt me, I have a possible donor in the form of a silver and black livery 071 that I can't stand the look of, but I think I'll have to keep one in that awful livery for historical purposes. It is a bit of fun. Now a GM 201 in B&T Livery would be fun. Quote
roxyguy Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 A 201 in early silver with a snail pulling a rake of MK3's in green with white lining and snails would look savage I reckon. If Aer Lingus can do a retro livery why not IE. Quote

Railer Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Glanderg posted a pic a long while back of a 201 in Inchicore photoshopped by him into the 071 slate livery and it looked really good. It really suits them. Quote

Looking forward to seeing the results:) I have some Mk2's myself that were sprayed into the intercity silver and green livery. Quote
Warbonnet Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 If Aer Lingus can do a retro livery why not IE. Well there's 071 in fairness! Quote
roxyguy Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Well there's 071 in fairness! Oh yes, forgot about that. I'm not too keen on that livery, maybe that's why. Quote
Noel Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 Oh yes, forgot about that. I'm not too keen on that livery, maybe that's why. In fairness the 60s Aer Lingus livery was visually attractive, bright and sharp, by contrast the original super train livery was rather depressing and dull. The later tippex white lined 'IE/IR' livery was a vast improvement visually. Quote

I am a fan of the IR era mind you! Quote

For me the supertrain of the 1970's reminds me of terrible 1970's wallpaper - you know the type. Quote

roxyguy Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Sorry, your wallpaper is very lovely and in great nick for it's vintage. I grew up in a house where every single room was papered and suitably have a wallpaper phobia ever since. Quote
Railer Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Only just noticed the back end of a MiG-25 in that after the shock of the wallpaper. Quote
roxyguy Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Only just noticed the back end of a MiG-25 in that after the shock of the wallpaper. All that's missing is a nice lady with an afro. Quote
Weshty Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Chripes. Whenever Millenials get the nostalgics for the 70s, just point them in the direction of that photo. There isn't eyebleach strong enough to cleanse that image. Quote
Broithe Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 All that's missing is a nice lady with an afro. The best I can do at short notice is the back bedroom wallpaper. Quote
Noel Posted March 21, 2017 Author Posted March 21, 2017 All that's missing is a nice lady with an afro. Ah memories of the RTE newsroom in 1965, which was broadcast in B/W, but had it been colour that is what it would have looked like. Bizarrely it also reminds me of some of the 007 'Diamonds are Forever' sets Quote
roxyguy Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 No wall paper in my gaffe. Broithe I actually quite like that one you have. A lot of this patterned wallpaper is making a comeback. Hipsters and the like really dig it. I have childhood nightmare of scraping the old paper off the walls for days on end. Quote
jhb171achill Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 What about an 071 covered in 1970s wallpaper.....? Quote
jhb171achill Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Brilliant! Looks like one of those Disney liveries you get in England, where no two items of rolling stock are the same. First Great Eastern Connex Aviva Train Company and their 324.5567 class identikit railcar....and all that.... where "customers" are reminded not to take photographs in the train station........ Quote
Noel Posted March 22, 2017 Author Posted March 22, 2017 Very good Eoin. I think my air brush skills are a few decades away from being able to do that! Quote
