201bhoy
Just working with peco streamline at the minute messing around with it but can't really seem to get the hang of it I might change to an L shape rather than a rectangle.

BosKonay
Anthony's right - unlike the real thing, you can still run a healthy freight flow on your layout Beets, Cement (bogies and bubbles), Timber, Container Flats, Tara Mines stock... lots of fun to be had

201bhoy
Ok, what do I need for a maintenance depot? Once I get the track laid I think that might be the first thing I start on. For those who aren't familiar with the layout, here's the current track plan Not sure if it'll stay or whether I'll switch to streamline though... Pleased with the progress I've made in the rolling stock. That's the easy bit! Edited May 7, 2012 by 201bhoy
BosKonay
Looks good - what radius / size points are you using in the plan? The Bachmann sheds are stunning, and could look well as the backdrop to your station - do you plan a fueling port, or what facilities at the depot?
201bhoy
1st and 2nd radius... not ideal I know, as the 201s can only mange 2nd radius but don't have the space... I was thinking about trying to create space for an L shape. I was planning on having a refueling point, and I'll definitely get either the Bachmann shed or the peco one. Maybe the Bachmann two road shed and the Bachmann one road at the other end?

201bhoy
Thanks Do you think it's too cramped or is it alright? Track will probably start getting laid in July.
BosKonay
I think it looks good! What's the overall space you have availabke?>
201bhoy
8 x 7, kind of! But I don't have the full rectangle, its the L shape on the layout. Each square represents one square foot By the way, how are you going to make the concrete cover over the track at Connolly? If you know what I mean
BosKonay
I'm planning to use woodland scenics. http://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/category/RoadSystem For the sheds, hardstanding, and plan to concrete over the entire freight area too for easy truck access

201bhoy
I've decided to use the peco station canopy to cover the top two platforms and then a smaller platform shelter for the bottom double platform. I can't decide between the bachmann maintenance depot or the peco one...
201bhoy
Massive Dilemma here... should I change completely to a Container terminal like North Esk or North wall in about 2005 or so? I just this and I was inspired! http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/23763-warren-lane/page__st__700
BosKonay
Ah Warren lane - an absolute classic Esk would be an almost identical fit too
201bhoy
I know! They're practically identical besides the fact that one's Irish and one's English! The only thing is, if I was doing one, it would probably be a dead end, like at the port, as the space I have would be ideal for a terminus. 201bhoy
Right! This is it! Kind of basing it on Rosslare, expect busier and with a container terminal.
BosKonay
I like it!!! Fiddle yard off the top?
Glenderg
Quick suggestion. Perhaps a crossover from line 1 to 2 in the container yard, at the end, so that an incoming loco on road 01 can detach from its train, and run around road 02 to do other things. Also, the outside line, road 3, a spur off the entry road to act as check points, and a loco storage road, or it could be a refueling point for the diesels? An unused turntable at the end...? Might add a bit of shunting fun to things? Richie
