Clogherhead - A GNR(I) Seaside Terminus
DJ Dangerous replied to Patrick Davey's topic in Irish Model Layouts
The layout is out of this world, and the wagons and bus look right at home there! Any joy finding that Base Toys Leyland Comet that @Westcorkrailway saw? -
Hmmmmm, video uploading after trying to brighten it up, but it's not great... But look at that firebox glow, on DC!
-
Were there any of the original IE or ST livery Mk2D's on display for colour comparison? I find that the shades of orange on both are very very similar, and could almost do with being swapped around. I have a hazy memory of the ST orange being more Jacobs-biscuit-y orange, like the Atlanteans, and the IR and IE being a more redish orange.
-
Gave Cookham Manor a run this evening for the first time. Left it a bit late to do it as I wanted to see the firebox glow, but cocked up and left it too late, so the video is crap. Trying to lighten the video at the moment, so here's a teaser photo in the meantime.

Me three! Although definitely not that quick, and more likely Postman Pedro, but still.

You Can't Beat A Bit of Bulleid - Open Wagons Next For IRM
DJ Dangerous replied to Warbonnet's topic in News
I wonder, for the 20' double-beets, were these bodies dumped straight onto the 20' flats, or were they re-worked? How long were the triangulated chassis? -
Is there any way of building in a large radius curved point, having a crossover before that, then having two shallower curves like this? Excuse the crudeness but I'm not the best digital artist.
-
I think that the couplings themselves have quite a small margin for movement. Some can't even tolerate simple first and second radius curves, never mind "S" bends. Pushing or pulling them through an "S" bend creates too much lateral force, and something has to give. You could try adding extra weight to test - I've seen something mentioned on here, maybe "Liquid Lead"? The same forces will still exist, however, so they'll just look for a different channel to balance things.

Agree 100%. If it brings new people into the hobby, everybody wins. New ideas, new perspectives, more customers for IRM, Murphy Models, Provincial Wagons, JMD etc further down the line.
-
Bit of a shame from a hardcore modellers perspective, if it genuinely is Railroad Range, but since they are so cheap BNIB on eBay, might be great for enticing new people into the hobby. Might just be the artwork was based on the railroad model? Have seen them as cheap as €50 odd BNIB on eBay.

@Broithe mentioned it briefly yesterday morning, without the detail of today's posts: I think it's absolutely brilliant that @Marks Models are commissioning a Jinty. I don't care whether the tooling is Bachmann, Hornby or Lima. If it brings new people to the hobby, and they then buy wagons or coaches from IRM, Murphy Models or Provincial Wagons, then happy days. Maybe they'll end up buying five new 071's in two or three years, along with rakes of coaches and wagons. If it's not good enough for forum members, then good for you, don't buy it, but try not to demean people indirectly, or unintentionally, who are going to buy it. I'll definitely order one, to support Marks Models, to support Irish railway modelling in general, and to see what it's like.

You Can't Beat A Bit of Bulleid - Open Wagons Next For IRM
DJ Dangerous replied to Warbonnet's topic in News
I saw mention in the IRM weedspray thread that the weedspray tanks were repurposed from tank wagons running on triangulated chassis, so I guess that's another - tank wagons. -
I wonder if it would be easier to re-number them as 184, rather then change the vents? The last 184 was in later IE livery so no clash there.

You Can't Beat A Bit of Bulleid - Open Wagons Next For IRM
DJ Dangerous replied to Warbonnet's topic in News
What were the Bulleid triangulated chassis used for aside from the single and double corrugated opens? I saw somebody mention H vans, too. Did any survive into the modern era under other guises? When did the Permanent Way ones enter and leave service? -
Aside from tasty cookies, and tasty tidbits regarding IRM's NIR Mk2 coaches at the Blackrock show? For reference, here are the duplicate IRM NIR Mk2 threads: https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/10443-irm-gets-enterprising-with-nir-mark-2-coaches https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/12696-nir-delivery-date https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/12751-nir-mark-2-update-december-2022 https://irishrailwaymodeller.com/topic/14126-nirrpsi-mk2-coaches/#comment-209684

I was asking which one so that he could contact the seller and ask them to hold it for him. -

New IRM Announcement This Weekend! What Could it Be?
DJ Dangerous replied to Warbonnet's topic in News
Possible that yesterday's flacid anti-climax was a cancelled announcement. Whose bus stand? There were at least four different bus stands listed. -
Any updates on the other Murphy Models projects from the Blackrock show today? Not the 141 / 181's nor the Mk2D's, as they have their own threads, but the likes of the 201's, the Mk3's, and the grey 071's mentioned by @DonderBlitzen?

Just to clarify, is this the correct url for members to log-in and see their pre-orders? https://irishrailwaymodels.com/apps/preorder_portal

FREMO modular layout - polish rail PKP
DJ Dangerous replied to Jack_Dunboyne's topic in Continental European Modelling
Lovely stuff, @Jack_Dunboyne! Great to see the layout progress from the first two boards on your dining table to this! Fair play for the commitment. -
I've been down south for so many years that my Irish geography is getting hazy, but are you saying that @Louth is in Dublin?
