Nice Dave. Open it up to see a lovely model Merc 300 SL roadster. Must resist to go back into diecast car collecting again!
  3. Nice pics Noel. How much are the coaches?
  4. I thought of that Eoin, collecting one set at the moment but havent done anything with them. Have a second body and I see C&L might be adapting their parts for the body which will be another option for the 2nd one. All in the 'to do' pile of course!
  5. Cheers Eoin, their A4 has a coating on it that'll need to be stripped off if I want to solder it. I think it'll have to be done as gluing is not an option on a working model like that as you say.
  6. Have you been able to solder the chassis Eoin or did they cover it with a coating like they have with their A4 to make gluing it easier?
  7. Have to agree with this. In fact, the only thing that really gets me lineside these days is RPSI specials. And I would always be more into diesels than steam. Freight and Dublin Cork/Belfast aside it holds no interest for me. We've also gone way off topic, think we need to steer it back onto the subject matter!
  8. Only 8208 left men if anyone is interested? Thanks for the sales!
  9. So in two weeks we've sold 40% of the run so far. Thank you so much for the support everyone! These are selling out fast!
  10. Good to meet you too Karl
  11. My three 141s sold out in double quick time that I placed on the site a couple of weeks back. Only thing to beat it was the MIR hunslet kit! Thank was gone in minutes and I had three messages for it within half an hour!
  12. And the winner is............ John Reid! Congratulations John!
  13. C Alas if only that simple. Remember, the A's were re-engined and gained headlights etc. You'd be talking a couple of mouldings at least, and a spare 150k of course! Keep dreaming!
  14. I think Sean Ryan has the odd bit of N Gauge too Dave? Just a thought.
  15. Now now, I never said they were more focused on a particular timeframe than us, I said more of them are focused on one theme, and that stands to reason considering there are move of them! There are plenty who still buy whatever Hornby and Bachmann churn out of course. I focus on two periods on BR myself. One I have memories of (late 80s to late 90s) a period when I spent a lot of summers over there, and one I have no memories of (60s steam - diesel transition) but find infinitely interesting. And as much as I love the sounds of a baby GM and 071s, Deltics, 40s, 50s, 56s, Peaks and 37s sound awesome to me. Diff strokes, but that's what makes this hobby great; diversity. At the end of the day it's not a 'my interest is more valid that yours' hobby which is great!
  16. Personally I think production will move elsewhere. Hornby has stuff made in India for example. I think there's a real opportunity for an emerging economy to 'do a China' if they could get their act together. The demand for cheap goods built to a high standard is there.
  17. glass cases Dave. A model should be like your woman; no other man should be touching them!
  18. Thanks for the order Rich!
  19. Excellent, we appreciate the support! We'll space out the payments on the bubble too as much as possible to keep the wolves from the door!
  20. Hi Noel, Thanks for that and yes we're delighted that we've hit 40% sales in 10 days after launching. It's a fantastic reflection of the community that you were all ready to dig deep and support us. It's fantastic and a great time for the modelling community here. The Ballast wagons are definitely going ahead. There's no doubt about that. Once they're done and sold we'll move onto the bubble, we've done some work on it already but we're concentrating on getting the ballast as right as possible first. When they sell out we'll get the bubble underway properly and start taking orders. It's easier this way as we are doing it in our spare time and all have day jobs and are still finding our way in this new venture. At the end of the day, we want to get both wagons as accurate as possible so we're taking our time in getting them right. It also helps customers save up and spread the cost over time. We will most likely do future runs of the hopper in different liveries, markings, running numbers etc in the future depending on sales of this run. Not sure about weathered versions, as they wouldn't get near the standard of people like George Norman, Anthony, Seamus Graham's, Tony Mirolos etc. I personally cant wait to see wagons after those guys slap them with the weathering stick! Hope that answers everything!
  21. bankruptcy.
  22. I think you show that you dont have to decide on one area and stick rigidly to it if you dont want to. At the end of the day it's a hobby and the important factor is enjoyment. It's about what aspect of this very broad hobby you enjoy the most. If that's collecting, train set operating or railway modelling (which has so many strands within itself to be honest, from nice scenery to watch trains go through to full operating procedure via parameters like operating accurate timetables) it's up to you and lines can be blurred between all three. I know for me it's a mixture of all elements. Some people can be disciplined and limit themselves to one area, in one time frame, and only use stock from that period. I personally wish I was like that as I'd save a lot of money, but alas am not. I also see that the vast majority of people in the Irish scene dont tend to be like that too. It's an interesting comparison to the UK and US scenes in that sense as focus seems to be practiced by larger numbers there. I have lots of diverse interests but sure it's all part of the craic of it.
  23. Interesting subject Noel, I was doing a stock take a while ago and just felt I had too many locos that are from time periods I wouldnt have much of an interest in like the current Irish scene, the Supertrain era etc. I also noticed I had a huge amount of mint boxed lima and early split chassis Bachmann which have since been replaced by modern and better running equivalents so it's time to give someone else the joy of them and invest the money in new American and British stuff that hold more of an interest to me. I'll be keeping my IR and IE orange era Irish stuff though as that's the era I remember the most, and will soon have some nice freight stock to run behind them! Sometimes a spring clean is a good way to get you what you want and not feel too guilty about spends.
  24. Hi everyone, Due to the massive amount of orders we received over the weekend we haven't been able to do the draw for the competition today. Once we get them all sorted and processed tomorrow (hopefully!) we will do the draw and announce it then. Sorry about the wait folks and thanks for your patience
