The DD’s will be held together by bale twine, the 29s will be fine, except for the fact there won’t be any floor left -

Planning progression. Hoping to get Owen O’Niell to help with the station building, which is going to be identical in shoe to drimoleague, Ballinhassig and Desert stations in west cork. Anyone know some fonts for the old AA yellow enamel road signs or the newer white cast County Council signs?

CBSCR Fictional Layout hello all. At Cork Model Swap Meet, I purchased an unfinished layout. The plan is to turn this into a fictional version of the Kinsale Branch, one where the Cork & Bandon railway was a far more profitable venture in the early days allowing for a more confident C&KJR. Changes include: Kinsale junction being far smaller and much further east and smaller with direct Cork-Kinsale The line follows a more direct path, just before the start of the 1/80 climb the railway takes a more wide turn. At the end of this line, roughly in line with the actual Ballymartle station, on the other side of the kinsale main road is this new fictional new station. After this the line descends into a tunnel before following mostly the same route into Kinsale. Another big change is that somewhere along the line (Probobly at the present day site of Kinsale golf club) there would be a big factory of some kind with its own industrial railway. The line won’t close in the 1930s but due to the better quality of line and factory traffic the line would continue. Passenger traffic along with steam haulage would come to and end in 1963, goods finally wrapping up in 1967. Ballymartle have much more space then the real life equivalent but will be equally rural. It will have a signal box, a CBSC station building styled off ballinascarthy, ballinhassig and drimoleague, a goods shed similar to that of madore/Farrangalway.

A superb show, quite simply a great success. The room was perfect, tables were good, plenty of space. Happy to report we narrowly broke even (enough to buy 3 or 4 pints!!!!!) I’d like to thank Kevin meany and Mark Dunlea for putting the event on, as well stewards Richie, Brendan and Cathal.

Aaaaah I spotted him alright. Hopefully he got on ok, space was a priority at this event

Some info for those attending Travel options Car If you’re coming from Waterford or Dublin. It’s very easy, through the jack lunch tunnel and keep following the N40 road. A exit for ballincollig will appear.once you arrive in ballincollig. There is both overground and underground parking at the oriel which is on the west side of the town centre, but if this does not suffice (it often does not) parking is available at nearby public parking (free) train once you arrive at Kent station walk to cork city hall and board either the 220 or 220x Bus. You stop is “Ballincollig town C” which is right outside Tesco on the west side of town. Walking west for 2 minutes and you will be outside the door.

Still going full steam ahead.

Irish Railway PW wagon livery in the 1950 to 1960
Westcorkrailway replied to Colin R's topic in General Chat
Yes like that coach, but there was not even a roundel on it, just the coach number (234A, 236A or 238A I can’t remember) Also this picture has always looked a little strange to me on Ernie’s railway archive….though I suppose it makes sense the gray looks a bit mad though -

One of these still survives converted into a living space of sorts down my direction. It was an Ex WLWR coach tha at some stage was rebuilt and as far as I can tell it was painted green….but not the exact kind of CIE green you’d expect and there was no lining to speak of. Ray good says that coach had gone down to Bantry in the 1950s for cattle fairs -

Perhaps it’s something like this? Was used on lifting trains down the south west and I *think* it’s of CMDR origin (Ernie’s railway archive) -
I presume the loading gauge of the Luas tracks would mean a light locomotive would be at the head of the train. Limiting its potential? Also it would be going at less than walking pace, I presume a flag man would be required! And I’m sure the people living near the Luas wouldn’t be to pleased with that yolk coming through in the middle of the night?

If you could open one railway station
Westcorkrailway replied to Darrman's topic in Letting off Steam
In my head cannon there would be a 4 piece ICR heading to Bantry going from Albert Quay to Bandon-Ballineen-Dunmanway-Drimoleague-Bantry.and a 2 piece 2600 operating between Cork and Bandon with stops at the Crossbarry, Ballinhassig, Waterfall, and somewhere in the Wilton/Togher area and Black ash. There would be proposals to connect the line to the Aiprort with a junction somewhere around Chetwynd but twould be like the Dublin airport situation! Freight on the line would have ended at most in 2006 with the end of Sugar Beet trains, in my own personal head cannon, Clon Juncton would be closed as a station but would be where beet was loaded Wellingtonbridge style. There would have been a mixed goods train similar to that of youghal running from bantry but that would have packed up in the late 1970s. The same probobly goes for Bantry Oil trains. It would be a line constantly under threat of closure (considering lines like the Sligo and Westport lines were under threat I’m sure that’s no suprise. Infact it’s possible that West of Bandon could close altogether in the late 1970s. Though it would still be a much better deal than the current west cork system got as a 1970s closure would make re-opening very pheasable -
Me too! I wonder would one regard the GM locos as 2nd generation deisals. That’s how I always saw it in my head cannon D, E, K, AEC railcar, A, C Sulzer (both types) ect. Spring to mind as first gen 2nd gen being the 121s, 141s and 181s

Where did the brass come from?
-
Those original 90 plates must be out there somewhere. A few GSRPS names spring to mind which might have a lead, but that’s about it
-
Then I have missed it twice on two flying visits…must go to specsavers JB

I’ll have to see that CBSC coach someday….is it on public display?
-
Hello 228owenaboy. I have put a couple more hours into the game and managed to master it (as much as you can with a 10 year old PS4) and I must say it’s superb. Aside a few collisions with the Bangor train it’s been good fun, like a big model railway

I’ve heard Olive Green, military green, dark green from 3 good sources…..I’ve packed up trying to actually find a decent colour match for now until somone magically finds a CBSC coach with a bit of paint left on it on the farm. And even that would be a very poor source!
