Anthony,all of that particular set of eight autoballasters had them fitted-I'm not sure about any other sets yet, I'm reliably told that IE had plans that e.g an eight piece set would have four wagons fitted with the extendable chutes and a six piece would have two wagons fitted, The photo was taken from the station platform at Roscommon station when the set was stabled there a few weeks ago, The set is now stabled on the former cement siding at Tullamore station minus a loco if anyone's interested.

Thanks lads, I've added some extendable chutes to two of my wagons, Most of the real autoballasters have been fitted with these extendable chutes,they are used for side filling and reach out about five feet extra when extended, IE planned to have two or four wagons on a rake, They are secured in place by clips either side...
  6. Evening lads, I've just finished this Vanhool Acron in CIE expressway livery as worn just before the transition to Bus Eireann circa 1986-reg no SI 3001-something different.....

  8. A nice selection and line up of trucks there Anthony-are they all made my Oxford? I could do with adding a few of these to my layout in the future.
  9. Got mine today-thanks Seamus.....the six piece set looks great behind 202-well done on the detail-the load gauge and the off/on for the handbrake wheel are spot on.
  10. Nice photos josefstadt.....the area at Clara that has been cleared is to facilitate the building of a new longer set of points which when built will be installed under where loco 072 is passing over. The longer point will allow faster running through the station in the future.

  12. They look excellent,well done to the gentlemen who took the time and trouble and money to commission these models,which are a welcome addition to the current Irish railway model scene.

There was an emergency telephone located in the old goods/Perway store at Foxford station in the event of an emergency with the Asahi liner and also there was special arrangements in place if the liner was overdue by 10 mins in a section, It would have been quicker to get to the location of a failed Asahi liner by road than it would by helicopter particularly during the hours of darkness down the west, There was also a telephone located at the 129 mpost near Bekan station between Ballyhaunis and Claremorris for that purpose also, That telephone was used and was connected to the ETS signalling system and was decommissioned when the mini CTC was introduced-the yellow box is still there today on the up side of the line.
  14. :tumbsup:Are you sure you didn't"borrow"the real brake van that's been lying in Inchicore works for the last 30 years-That is certainly a top class job-well done again Anthony.

Correct Herflick-that was because it was CIE locos that operated all virtually all cross border freights at that time-the Hunslets were working Enterprise trains and later the GM 111s took over that duty-It was all either 001,B201 or 141/181 that operated freight trains with B201,004,008,046 coming off the worst and 146 being rebuilt after bomb damage.

Correct-I should have used 220 instead....incidently it was 18 years on the 6th June 1994 since 201 landed in this country on board that Antonov, Its first run was on Tuesday 14th June when it operated light engine from Inchicore-Kildare-Inchicore, 201 was officially launched on Friday 24th June 1994-and over the weekend of the 25th/26th June worked a series of load trials of up to 1,000 tonnes between Cork and Rathpeacon, Unfortinuatly today Friday 22 June 2012 loco 201 is stored next to 205,202 and 212 on the scrap bank line at Inchicore works, Although my 201 is back in service at the front of the executive set this evening, Thank Retro for the comments-the sound chips have really made a difference to the layout.
  17. That is correct Anthony,thats what I was told by a former loco driver who operated cross border trains during the 1970s/1980s.btw-Nice photo of Limerick depot.

The original plan was to have three sets of wagons in service-a ten piece,an eight piece and a six piece,however that was short lived as some problems developed with the wagons,so IE decided to hold a few spare,e.g a genny wagon and one or two standard hopper wagons,they can be added/subtracted to sets when they are due for examinations once a month at Limerick wagon works, As of today 21/06 I'm told there are two sets of eight and one set of six in operation around the country-the eight piece having two gen wagons and the six piece having one gen.
  19. The first photo is of a Bachmann 150 repainted as a 2600 on Tara Jctn,transfers by Des at Studio scale models,that was before David Kavanagh produced his brass version 2600-which is excellent....
