    Ballast

Thanks Guys for posting this. I’m ballasting at the moment using the “Everard Junction” method. After the first run had dried I used the vacuum cleaner with a nylon sock in the hosepipe to pick up the loose ballast. (My theory being if the vacuum cleaner does not lift it, it’s there to stay. I must have recovered nearly a third of the ballast I laid leaving many gaps. The black Woodland Trackbed shows through any area not covered. I used the recovered ballast to cover the Trackbed edges which is about 4mm high. Further ballast has just arrived in the post today so this new method using alcohol with water is very opportune. I shall give it a try and see is it as good as the video. The Guy in the video says to use a couple of cap full’s of alcohol to the water so I suppose the ratio does not have to be very exact.
  2. Thanks Gordon, I'm sorry I missed it.
  3. Like Snapper I need point indicators on my Control Board especially for my storage sections which will not be visible from my control point. I have looked at Wiggy’s suggestion of using Heathcote Points Indicators but they are £17 each covering only 4 points. Has anyone used them or would recommend other methods. I am using Peco points driven by DC with approx 30 points on the layout to date.
  4. Thanks for finding this one, I wonder if it ran on to Central & Gt Vic St?
  5. Top marks for your rake of Mark III's, next a layout to run them on, good luck
  6. I couldn’t make the Enniskillen Show (again). Can anyone who was there give us a report and pictures if possible please?
  7. Tinning the tip after use keeps the tip clean but if you forget or your tip is black use’ tip cleaner’ and it brings it up shinning. I got mine in Malpins and have rarely used it after I restored my old tips.
  8. Had a look at your website Eoin, one question –what type of glazing will you be using?
  9. Yes more photos please, this is only a teaser!
  10. The Cultra show is on the 10th Nov. He was at a previous show and had his kits on display.
  11. Do you know if Allen is coming to the Cultra Railway Exhibition this year?
  12. It was just my sardonic sense of humour
  13. Finally completed my additional storage section. It’s frightening to see once I started to fill it with coaches how quickly it is filling up. It looks like there will be ‘no room in the Inn’ for my freight stock. Hopefully that will be the end of my “Subterranean Homesick Blues” (Dylan to the uninitiated) and I can continue work on the topside, ballasting being my next priority.
  14. My upgrading of locos to DCC is continuing, 25 completed to date. I have installed lights in some models and the latest are the Class 70 & Class 80. I also replaced the lights in my 2700 Class with LEDs again using a kit from Express Models –very straight forward. Open heart surgery on the Class 80 Test running the 80. Class 70 which only had a headlight. The Class 2700 with LEDs Just as an aside –my rake of Mk II coaches showing “40 shades” of orange!!
  15. The lights give a very atmospheric look to your layout Eamonn.
  16. Thanks Bren
  17. 85 + I don't think I would have that many wagons. Never thought of new track causing problems, what cleaning method did you use?
  18. You couldn’t be more specific??
  19. Dave, is there any MM models you not have?
  20. Thank Bren for the still pictures. Now you can really see what a unique and novel project this is. I counted 17 storage tracks on one level alone. The workmanship on the planning and construction is excellent and while this layout may not be everyone ‘cup of tea’ may I congratulate you on being innovative and doing your own thing. It looks to me like a layout what will bring joy in the ‘running of trains’ and that can’t be bad in itself.
  21. Thanks Dave, looking forward to see what was the last 2 items of 2001 to be released?
  22. Looking forward to seeing 'Kilmeg' growing and developing. It is heartening to see so many new layouts being posted on the site showing the growing strength of our hobby.
  23. Some pictures from Downpatrick of their Post Van. Hope they are OK to post and are of some use.
  24. High standard of work as always Eamonn -looking forward to more -please
