  1. Kieran, what did you use as a donor vehicle for the second class corridor/guard/ brake(?) that the K class is pulling in the final photo. I thought I saw it in your Youtube vid being pulled by your B101, and if what paints colours you used, it looks really class.
  2. Nice one Bosko, love the beets on the viaduct. Keep up the great work! R.

    New IÉ logo...

Experimental livery - that's what I was thinking when I saw Blaine's Airfix paint sheet for 071. R

    New IÉ logo...

It could be a nod to Bulleid's peat burner livery, after much time in traffic too?
  6. The last man to post up a railway related product on here with "printed on windows" nearly got lynched best not go there!
  7. Great progress, love the retaining walls and the goods train.
  8. cheers lads. des, i think ispent more time on fools errands like making grilles from styrene sheet than anything else. the way i lookat it, it's a really good kit to do a bit on, work on something else and come back. any recommendations on glue other than superglue? me fingertips are raw! richie
  9. Evening All, Just a quick update, the battery on the camera died, so I've to go and charge her up before I can get some more photos of buildings, but in the meantime, a few shots of the SSM Sulzer Kit a client asked me to build for him. As recieved, and I wasn't mad about the roof detail, since you'd spend most of the time looking down at it, so I cut the central part of the roof off, finished it flat, laid balsa, sanded to profile, and added a sheet of styrene on top. I drew up the demountable panels on the roof and stuck the drawing to some styrene, and using a needle punch, made up the rivetted panels. I butchered a lovely old compass to make the circular trim for the exhaust. I chose not to go the CD cover route for the grilles, I find cutting that stuff painful, so I scored some thick styrene instead. I wasn't mad about the windows on the front, so I cut em off, and I made a little set of braces so I could get the bevel on the front beneath the windows. New windows added and a bit of filling/sanding x 3 to go... Braces back on to get that bevel! I'm between worlds as to whether or not to re-do the tablet catcher recesses with the bevel. She'll be finished as B105 in this livery here, though slightly more workstained. http://eiretrains.com/Photo_Gallery/Railway%20Stations%20D/Dalkey/slides/Dalkey_20101126_001_CC_JA.html It's an enjoyable project so far, but I'd like to get her on a chassis while she's still unfinished. It's been a new way of looking at the sulzers, I hadn't given them much credence as locos before. Must dash. Richie.
  10. Scratchbuilding is one of those painful topics in railway modelling. sometimes its a bit wonky, but other times it works out just right. it's never the same thing twice, but you always learn from it. Suir, you're doin a crackin job, the satisfaction of having a complete rake is something only you can appreciate. afterall, its a basic skill required for irish modellers. hats off sir. richie

Cheers Des for the update, and the efforts you're making. Would anyone have a photo of the engine exhaust on the roof or even a photo of something similar? Any help greatly appreciated. Richie.
  12. Sweet! Nice editing on the vid too!
  13. Sorry Dave, it's just my aul' fella is 73 and he has a "girlfriend" too - it's hard to tell what age group is referenced when a bloke says "girlfriend" anymore... my bad
  14. So that's what the youngfla's call it these days then? R.
  15. Having seen that Kirley, I have formally given up any hope of DCC and that leap. * *digs out grey Lima 12V transformer to hide behind.... DC for the win....
  16. Dave, can't wait to see your layout shortly, given all the stuff you've bought - €600 from UK, Bridges etc, include your MDF wizadry - no excuse for brilliance
  17. Tidy work on the front window frames on the B Class and front appearance in general. Talk about progress, you must be a hairs breath away from spraying her? What livery are you going for? Same goes for the bus, assume a yellow livery, Noel? Richie.
  18. I wish I had more time today to go through his workbench "blogs" - (confusing layout over there) but from what I've seen and the few bits published in BRM and MR of late, his work is second to none. I loved the elastic band between bogie and chassis, and his method of slimming it down. A bit of lateral thinking never hurt a modeller! R.
  19. Got a link to that lunatic on RMweb Rich?
  20. Woohoo! Thank you sir! R. (sorry seamus)
  21. knowing my luck their sold be now. i'd be interested in any with line drawings or detailed photos of irish stock or locos, rather than books stuffed with pretty shots for postcards! time period irrelevant, in fact the black n whitier the better! richie.
  22. didn't win either of 'em seamus it appears! happy reading Suir! R.
  23. The centre spacing for express points (long ones) is 50mm centres -the spacing for shorter points is 67mm centres. This is what you can fit on a two foot board, with a scale 201 thrown in for scale purposes. Richie. (I can see fellas eyein up ikea shelves now trying to get Inchicore on em! )
