  1. Quick update but no photos today Got all the points between the platforms and the mainline down today (the station throat). 7 large points, 3 medium a double slip and a crossover all adjusted, frog isolated, droppers soldered, laid, glued and set Phew! Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a few snaps once the glue has gone off and I can take the weights off the trackwork This was the big bit that was scaring me from my planning days and I'm happy to say that, as long as you just focus on each point as an individual, and go through the steps carefully, there is nothing more to it than laying a single point
  2. Here is a brand new soldering iron tip, and what mine looks like after about 1 hours use. I tinned the tip well, keep it clean after use and wipe down with a damp sponge every few minutes of use, I don't leave it 'on' unattended or when not being used for more than a few minutes,.... I guess the question is, short of buying spare tips regularly, is this just how corrosive modern lead-free solder is?!
  3. You are a non stop inspiration sir!
  4. Looks absolutely spot on! A master of understatement
  5. Another vote here for soldering, if you need the flexibility to be able to move / disconnect, then solder links to the bus and the track, and connect both with a choc block / terminal.

  22. They key is to take it slow and steady. The hornby stuff and track is great to help you figure out what you like / what bores or interests you, and to allow you dream of what maybe one day you can build For me, 90% of the fun of this hobby is all the mental planning :)
