  1. That is a fine rake, and looking well!
  2. Niiiiiice!!!! Love the embankment detail and underweeded permanent way.
  3. 20% increase? It's like being back in 1977...
  4. Let's be reductionist on this. The bulk of Fry's original work was on display in the Anteroom. What was it, 20' x 20' at most? So in effect Dublin Council/Dept of Arts whatever, yadda yadda, can't organise at the very least some equivalent municipal space somewhere in Dublin Centre? Even as an interim measure, this would beat having it in out of sight in storage. Full working version...another battle for another day.

    Condolences

Just saw this now. Deepest sympathies Seamus on your loss.
  6. Be still my beating heart!! This is magic.
  7. Leslie, that is a stunning looking kit, I may have to get a sample or two just for the collection, even though strictly speaking it won't be able to run on my Mallow layout! The detail is just joyous. Well done. Some judicious weathering will really do it justice.
  8. A Victorian version of Newgrange...love it!
  9. (Wow)^4! Now THAT is a tunnel. The size of it! My bridge building intentions kinda went off the boil, but lordy, the sight of that has put me back on track.
  10. Oh, that is very nice indeed, well done John. Brass is great for the extra fine detail.
  11. Took the words out of my mouth. Off-black and multitones of same to emphasise shading and detail. Choice.
  12. Straight up I love the wood effect. Very subtle, almost factory smooth, well done. No harm in being self critical, though sometimes you have to tell that inner voice, in the immortal words of Eddie Murphy, to "have a coke and a smile, and shut the f&*% up!"
  13. I think I might have chords and melody to go with that line John, no truer words ever spoken Even after a 3rd or 4th revision, something ALWAYS escapes...
  14. close coupling system? Yup. Some guitar e string or brass wire, one looped, the other as a hook and you've an effective system for a rake. I've seen it discussed in detail in some book or another, but can't think of it at mo.
  15. and by the looks of it, tasty kits too.
  16. Nice one David, good to see the range and price.
  17. I love the way this is going.....
  18. I concur. A beautiful piece of work.
  19. Thanks Sca'! Let's get the current batch finalised and out first though.
  20. Interesting work gents. The Prestwin retails at c. €7, so you need to come in under that just to break even. A whitemetal casting would certainly do the job, and minimise construction. It would minimise construction time, provide good weight and be relatively cheap in terms of set up costs. I'd suggest brass W-Irons to ensure free running and counteract any distortion of the chassis. A lost wax brass version? Wow. That would be rock solid!
  21. Thanks for the feedback Patrick. The gate project is very close to my heart, hopefully I've captured about 90% of the variations out there. You've given great inspiration for my layout (more anon.). "Rails Through North Kerry" should be on the shelves in late autumn" REALLY looking forward to this, and great to see the converted line given some great advertising in the Sunday Times Cycling pullout last week. It is well worth taking a Saturday or Sunday to go from Barna to Abbeyfeale. Just beautiful. You can pretend you're a train driver going over the Garryduff viaduct
  22. Love the layout, ballasting looks real, and not too homogenous in colour and the rolling landscape backdrop is class.
  23. Now that's a great idea! Very tempted. Beamish at 8:30 with a special branch man looking on bemused...
  24. The very best of luck, George. Delighted to hear the good news, though upper Oliver Plunkett St. will be losing a good character!
  25. Here, here!
