  1. I put up a post elsewhere regarding this. It was not Hornby's idea. They were approached with the idea. Sorry, messed up with the link, but it is in the topic on Mark's Models Jinty
  2. Wonder when it will appear in Murphy Models form? I presume they are just vinyls/stickers applied? Wonder if we will see a 201 running on HVO painted up like these?
  3. Many years ago I remember there was talk of trying to get Hornby to do an Irish version of the class 58..with 071 numbers and liveries. The reason being that both classes were "dog bone" type locos. It never came to fruition as Hornby at the time were not interested. The numbers talked about were very small. It was not a very well presented business case either. Imagine talking to Hornby about this...on a pay phone. The operator cutting in to say your time was up or more money was needed. Ah well they meant well! There was no such thing of an investor in the wings. It was more a question of (and I quote) "How much do you have in your post office savings account?". Sounds funny now but believe or not the people involved were deadly serious about this. Me, I was not involved just knew a few of those involved so I heard some of the conversations. Ah the innocence of it all!
  4. Here is a clearer pictures of the wooden chocks in action on an 071. I put this up a number of years ago. They were lying on the ground with a small length of rope attached to each one.

Got an email from Royal Mail telling me " Your parcel LG**********GB from ELLIS JAMES CLARK has now arrived in Ireland. Checked An Post Track and Trace and got this " Your delivery has been sorted DUBLIN MAIL CENTRE, DUBLIN 12" No shortage of updates from Royal Mail!

When I was tracking my packet from Ellis Clark with Royal Mail, there was a link to continue tracking which automatically brought me to the An Post track and trace page. The packet number was there with the An Post status. When the packet was ready for dispatch, Ellis Clark sent me an email with the tracking number. Clicking on this number automatically linked to the packet status on the Royal Mail tracking system. As I paid the VAT to An Post today, it will be interesting to see when it arrives with me.

  10. If you look closely at the first loco (170) you can see the wooden chocks wedged against the wheels.

Yes I checked with RAILS. They deduct VAT from the new stuff but not from the preowned stuff.
  14. From "RAILWAYS ILLUSTRATED" December 2004.
  15. When Irish Rail took delivery of a new locomotive, what did they do with the cardboard box and polystyrene or foam insert? They must not have kept the cardboard boxes otherwise all of those class 201 locos sitting at Inchicore could have been put back in the boxes and stored when not in use. That is what I do.
  16. Just a smiling face which covers a lot!
  17. The way things are going in this country these will have to be rebranded as "Alternative Green Energy storage unit", otherwise they will be banned!
  18. Was at a sportsday/funday today. My daughter was taking part as the unit she attends was taking part. There were other units for people with special needs there. Anyway it was a nice day, the grass was dry, the rules of the various competitions were not that strictly enforced and none of the participants had to undergo a blood tests to see if they had partaken of illegal substances to enhance performance. The welly throwing competition was interesting especially as the aim and trajectory of the wellies seemed to be an unknown quantity, interesting for the spectators. One of the participants came over to me and the Mrs. I thought he was going to apologies for almost decapitating me with a wellington boot during the welly throwing contest. Instead he promptly told me and the wife that he was my daughter's boyfriend. I immediately told him that there was a form to be completed for that. Never a dull moment.
  19. Might sound like heresy but I have no particular interest in it! I watched the football instead. Some years some spectators opened a gate to a field and parked their cars in it. Others saw them and did the same. All without permission from the farmer. The farmer got his digger and dug a trench across the gateway. When the spectators returned they could not get the cars out until every one in the field paid the farmer for parking in his field. Another farmer had a similar issue. He locked the gate after he went in with a tractor and slurry spreader, ready primed for action. When the spectators returned he would not unlock the gate until he was paid for the use of his field. Some of the car owners got mouthy but the farmer said he would let loose with the slurry spreader over the cars if not paid. There was no slurry in it but water. However this would have had a nice slurry odour from the spreader.. They paid up.
  20. Service area just up the road. Started off dry but very wet from early afternoon. There is one crash, up on line, before the rain.
  21. The Donegal Rally landed this morning. It's been a noisy day!
  22. When washing the car, the space around the lug nuts on the wheels can be hard to access. I find a soft 2 inch paint brush perfect for cleaning my nuts. If you are busy you can always ask your Mrs if she would mind giving your nuts a little tender loving care with a soft two inch brush
