Murphy Models 071 with sound chip won't move
Joe Keegan replied to RobertRoche's question in DCC, Electrics and Electronics
Hi Robert , Check the following cv settings : cv2 = 3 minimum speed /start voltage cv3=80 acceleration rate cv4=80 deceleration rate cv5=225 max speed cv6=88 mid speed What DCC controller are you using ? Anyone reading this , if you a specific Murphy Models decoder for the 201/071 and you have a problem with it where it does not operate . DO NOT RESET THE DECODER to factory settings by using cv8 . You are removing the unique Murphy Models decoder mapping settings which are specific to each loco class 201 / 071 non sound/sound decoder eg cab interior lights etc . If you have a problem with a decoder check the cvs from the manufacture web site that they correspond to your decoder . The above cvs are from the ESU site . Joe -
Hi Ken Congrats on using Brooks Smith method . You can use a sleeper with the rivet as a pivot as a tie bar with the rails soldered to the rivets. Using the PCB as tie bar works just as well as the Late Frank Davis and I have done . I can get you PCB strip if you are in the Dublin area but as the new format on this site now it does not show the member general geographical location and this offer maybe of no use to you . Joe

Does anybody in Dublin stock the Back Track magazine?

No , it is not available in Dublin since the late 80’s . Eason’s in Belfast & Bangor do sell it . Eason’s in Cork may sell it as they deal with a different wholesaler . Is the February edition with the David Pearson article that you are looking for ? If you are going to the Glasgow show , you should be able to get a copy there . -
The Railway was LGB track with converted loco’s/rolling stock to look like Irish outline . There was a model of the Grand Canal 12th lock and the lock keeper House there as well.

The MRSI 21mm Loughrea's turntable is a modified Hejan unit . The SDMRC 21mm Belturbets's broad & narrow gauge turntables are well type and are scratched built . South Eastern Finecast used to make a well turntable but I believe London Road Models now sell the well turntable in 42' and 50' . They also sell an etched brass kit of the Cowan Sheldon turntable as well .

Hi , try the lads in the Midlands Club in Abbeyleix . Is the other loco running okay?
-
It is 7mm finescale and not 36.75 mm . Harry preferred the finer wheel rather than the course wheels . I had the privilege of seeing and operating Harry's layout. Joe

]Thats a great idea. All the cables and parts should be easy to get from any decent RC model aero shop (if such exists anymore in ROI after W J Owens closed in bray) If you look outside Bray , you can go to Dublin where you have Marks Models , Model Shop , Green Hobby & Model , The Radio Control Shop to name but a few .

Corolla K20 arrived in the Irish market in 1973 . Yes let's mix it with the B & T 141's .

South Dublin MRC will be attending with Lucan South at stand 6 . See you guys there .

Quite;"Alas, Noel, I have more than a few superbly hand-built locos but which simply don't run so well." Leslie If the loco don't run well initially on analogue DC , it will not run well on DCC either . Stay alive for 4-4-0 will work well but if there is extra pick ups from all wheels the loco should be a fine slow runner after running it in .

The guy in the second photo reminds me of 'Doyle' from The Professionals! CI5 to ESB? 2nd picture taken at ESB office in Enfield which is now closed . 5th picture Vauxhall Viva van was used by meter readers ,Supervisors store men and the most unpopular job doing NPA's . NPA's was Non Payment of Accounts where the customer had defaulted on paying their bill . You were sent out to collect the outstading money and if could not be paid then you disconnected the customer . 6th picture with VW transporter with the " After Sale Service " was the repair sevice section that the ESB provided for customers who bought appliances from the ESB showrooms that required attention .

The Lighthouse that you are referring to is Rathlin West Lighthouse , one of three Lighthouses on Rathlin Island . The other two Lighthouses are Rathlin East and Rue Point , which can be seen on your right as you enter the port from Ballycastle . A temporary pier was built below the base of the Lighthouse . An inclined railway was constructed from the pier to the cliff top to facilitate the transpotation of materials for the construction of the Lighthouse . The are no details of the railway / track gauge . I would sugguest that it was Funicar type railway and it would have been 2' gauge as that was the norm for contractors to use . There would not have been a locomotive used here but a steam driven winch / pulley system or even horse driven. This is Irelands only upside Lighthouse . The quality of concrete used back in 1912 was superb as it has not deteriorated over the years . The are approx 180 steps down from the top down to the Lighthouse itself . Rathlin West Lighthouse is worth a vist if you are in County Antrim just to see the quality of the workmanship from a 100 years ago which you will not see today . The van in the picture was the local telephone exhange from Rathlin to Ballycastle using radio link / micro wave before a cable was laid on the sea bed and the radio link decommissioned . The Fastnet Lighthouse had a 2' gauge track with a truck that would transport the granite from where it is was landed from the boat and transported to base of the Lighthouse . A block & tackle with a truck on wheels with the granite piece secured would be pulled up the side of the lighthouse to where it was reqiured .
