Very interesting idea, I'd say there would be some very interesting designs, but why would this scenario happen?, and what of the turf burner? I'm almost tempted to have this scenario on my layout. I'd love to see a model of a GNR 4-6-0, a good donor would be a LNER B12.

Trix is a company that builds model locomotives etc, they did make American locos as well

The coupling or "driving"rods are the rods connecting the wheels to each other while the connecting rod is the rod the connects the wheels to the cross heads

what if they were built in ireland, to a british design but on the 5,3 gauge.

If the border had never existed would their still be a GSR and GNR? like the big four of britain? as irish railways were heavily influenced by britain and its railways i think this could have been the case. if it was all under one railway (Great Irish Railways?) we would have a very different railway system now, better or worse off who knows. as for if ireland remained part of the empire ireland probably would have been included in the nationalisation and beeching axe would have left us with Dublin cork and belfast mainline and dublin sligo line, some other lines in the south east may have also survived. one can only imagine the locos running. Deltics with some mk3s anyone?

They said the Phoenix park tunnel was only a temporary solution? . Frankly I think the dart underground is a fantastic idea. It will reduce traffic and therefore co2 emissions and will make Dublin a much more tourist friendly area. I'm sure it would be extremely successful.
