I dont remember it being to hard to get to.you might need permission.When i asked they said it was fine,but just be on the safe side if you want to get up close.Freight very rarely if ever comes to mullingar.I only found out about the ballast train when i saw it standing on the railway bridge,to my joy hauled by an 071 class which hadnt been seen in mullingar for a long time.Otherwise mullingar is a few DMUs passing par the RPSI tours and the odd timetable mix up ending up in two angry drivers and one of them having to bring their train back to the station to one of the other tracks.everything seems to happen on mullingars railway bridges!
  3. Although it is a good idea the downside is irish rail would not put money into the storage sidings. Many points are broken and most sidings would have to be ripped up.They might upgrade the line to the turntable and engine shed,or if the luxury train company invested in Mullingar(which would make me mullingars happiest young man)However they are going to have to pay some sort of attention to the disused station as it seems ready to collapse.As for freight im not sure but the pw yard did not dissapoint me!You might(all though unlikely)see a PW or ballast train at mullingar.last time i saw a ballast train was about 5 months ago so not sure if they will be around any time soon!

  5. Hi guys.Since im building a yard for kedleston i knew it needed some buildings.But very few layouts are set in the 50s in ireland,so im not sure what to put in the yard(par an engine shed,water tower and turntable)

  7. Hi guys.800 is about 75 percent complete par the wiring :mad:and crankpins:mad:and some other small stuff. To save me from the mental a good friend,who has been very helpful and has supported me (supplying me with necessery equipment for my endeover)has said that he would finish her off. A better idea,as i am hopeless when it comes to wiring

Bit strange but,considering the Scotsman now nearly 100 years old was still working (despite her seeming to be constantly in doncaster with cracked crankpins) so if the steam era for some reason had never been brought to an end or effientcy of steam had improved to provide instant steam(this was already discussed in another post)i dont see why the 800s wouldnt have lasted into 2000 or even later.I also bring up the question why werent they converted to oil burning?

  23. Hi guys,im trying to get as much info on the 400s as im am thinking of making a wiki page on them.anything of any significants would be helpful.
  24. a Sub would have probably have known the boat or something large was tangled in it as the extra weight would slow the sub down.
